Wash your mouth out! LOL. They are a very nice vehicle but at that price I'd like to stand out from the crowd a bit more and have something that I can say I built myself. Plus at around 1800kg I know which body will get the most out of the ls2

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
On the weekend I'd look for the advert of the yellow RHD Firebird from NSW.
It was a more mature owner and looked like a clean car.
My guess is that it was converted to RHD first, registered and then the LS1 conversion was done.

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Engine bay looks great. I may have to try my hand at smoothing metal when I get to mine.
I have seen a brake linkage similar to that on a Hyundai that was converted to LHD for the US market. It was a long crossbar from one side to the other. Seems to me there would be some flex in it but seems to work under normal circumstances.
Headers by Ed http://www.headersbyed.com/__chevrolet.htm#LS1 has flanges when you get to building a header set. Reading on his site make me think he knows his stuff.

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS

Thanks awolfalone2006, yeah the linkage is a strage setup but I like it because it keeps the engine bay looking the way it should be. It's plenty strong. As for headers it looks like they will need to be standard to pass engineering for emissions requirements. Luckily the HSV motor i've purchased comes standard with superior headers to the usual cast headers.
Engine bay paint has had a once over with cutting compound, it'll need some more but already looks good and is smooooooth.
Had another look at the new crossmember, I'm going to have to either cut it or take to my trans tunnel with a BFH to get it between the chassis rails and back to the bolt holes.

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Just looking back on the pics of your brake cross-shaft, mine is done exactly the same way. The parts look identical - maybe there was a standard 'kit' the converters were using back in the day. Don't know who converted mine, and always wondered - compliance plate just says 'Misfire' (wtf!).
My mechanicals are solid, but the wiring... was your instrument panel cut in half with a hacksaw, halves swapped and glued back together with silastic, and then wired back together with about 20 individual same-coloured wires?

Hacksaw???
No my dash is one piece of fibre glass specially made for RHD conversion. I've seen another just like it for sale about 6 months ago too. I haven't separated the wires in the looms yet but they are all wrapped in conduit and look pretty neat.

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Just the instrument cluster itself - the external panelling is the correct rhd piece - the dodginess is completely hidden thank god.
For rh conversion, the speedo and tacho have to be moved to the rh side of the cluster, to remain in front of the new rh steering wheel position. Yeah was not happy, this was less than well executed... Still, got the car cheap so can't really complain.
AC - if you have to use the stock LS2 exh manifold, can it be made to clear the steering shaft?

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Yeah pretty sure manifolds can be cut and moved a little but will need to be standard length with standard cats and sensors in standard locations etc.
Actual instrument cluster is still in one peice, I have the 91-92 type cluster and your's may be different. I just had a look at the dash itself and some of the plastic heater pipes have been cut and joined with silicone to fit the cluster in front of them. And the dash cluster surround has the top right corner cut out of it to clear the middle air vents. Also found some pieces of cut up icecream container stuffed in front of some of the pipes to block flow to certain vents. Whats wrong with people?

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Isn't new and newly painted stuff just so nice and purrty! You really have got a ton of money into this - should be Street Machine cover material when done.
Just recovered from my brainfart, and realised you have a Camaro - which has the shorter cluster with the 2 large gauges, vs my TA which has the longer cluster with 4 large gauge bezels. You cluster wouldnt need to be modified for rhd.
Is that the original steering box you have, not the usual HQ box for rhd?

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Thanks for the positive comments, I appreciate it
I love the look of the long dash cluster with 4 large gauges. Wish thats what mine came with. Nothing on the 91 camaro dash works
The streering box is what came with the conversion. From what research i've done I think it's a hq box

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
@Aussie Camaro - what brand are those new steering components?
Are from a HQ series?

Just had a better look at my steering box to compare, yeah yours is an HQ - looked to be too long at first glance in the pic.

Re: LSX into right hand drive RS
Hey so I know this is an old thread but what ever happened with your conversion...? I'm in Brisbane and I'm thinking very seriously about doing an LS1 or LS2 swap into my 86' Z28 Camaro but I don't want to even get started unless I know I can pull it off... "Aussie Camaro" please let us know how it all panned out...!!
