Need a torque converter

I gave up on the 700R4 after close consideration. Found myself a 4L60E and now I need a torque converter for it. Motor is a 5.7L and will be completely stock(for now). I have been told that the stock converter was something like 1,650 stall?

I found this one for a fair price and seems like it would get the job done. And I don't know a darn thing about transmissions so its time to learn. http://racetransmissions.com/store/p...roducts_id/252

Car will be daily driven this summer so nothing crazy. So should I spring the extra $40 bucks and buy one with a slightly larger stall? I will probably throw in an LS6 cam in the near future.

Re: Need a torque converter

if you've got a 30 spline input shaft on your tranny, i have a converter that fits the 30 spline 700r4. so long as the bolt pattern is the same, itll bolt right up. its a brand new never installed TCI converter. im looking for 200 shipped. its got an 1800 stall

Hmm...I may take you up on that. Does anyone know whether or not the flywheel bolt pattern is the same?

Well the fact that my trans was bone stock with 140K was reason #1. Plus I ended up paying $600 for a rebuilt Ls1 f-body trans so having adjustable shift points was just a bonus.

I don't really give Jeg's or Summit's websites credit for anything.....however I haven't sold my 700R4 yet so tomorrow I'll take my flywheel over and check, she's been alone in the garage for awhile and could use a talkin' to anyway .

Edit: I take that back. I believe something about the converter was different when the switched to the 3 piece case, can any else verify this?

Re: Need a torque converter

I would snag a 3600-ish even for a stock motor, peak torque is 4500 on a stock ls1, so anything under that would be perfect actually. The trans still has lockup so go big if you like, it'll still lockup and get great highway manners.

You need an LS1-specific torque converter, or use an adapter with a TH700 converter. 1800 stall is not near enough, though, even for a stock LS1.

(I'd point out that a member recently posted he has a 3600 stall Yank for sale, but I'm hoping I can get it... )

Just sold a 3800 yank not too long ago, bet your car would have loved it.
