Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

I made a post a little while ago about accessories and somebody posted they used Corvette accessories without issue... but they aren't done with the car and it is only one person.

I am ready to get accessories. Can anybody confirm/deny the compatibility of Corvette accessories and what type of issues are experienced and the solutions? I can buy a Corvette kit from GM new for about $730. That's attractive considering it's all brand new and shiny to match the rest of the car.

This isn't an F body accessory discussion. Keep it on the 'Vette please.

There's like 4 people on here using them. Do a search under "corvette accessories" and you'll find their threads. I think one guy used the 4th gen power steering line and another guy used one from an 09 corvette. Other have info in their threads about which upper rad hose they used, etc.

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

I did a search a couple weeks ago. Didn't come up with any details.

It's good to hear further confirmation that it's been done. I'd feel a little better if I can find a good write up or somebody can share here.

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

So the post above has no air conditioning. I talked to Nook and Tranny today (they sell parts and do swaps for people) and they told me the Corvette AC compressor will cover mounting hole for the location where motor mounts attach on F body cars.

So has anybody actually made the Corvette AC work without having to relocate to top side?

I havent bought the accessories yet, but I planned on going Corvette style WITH the low mount A/C. This was going to be a fall fab project for me though

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

Bruce Hawkins (Hawk's Thirdgen) tells me it does fit LS7 in 3rd gen which should be the same fit as LS1.

I don't know who to believe!

All the Corvette accessories I've seen do not have air conditioning.

Found this saying Corvette A/C does not fit: Post #90 & 91 https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ml#post4706445

Oh, come on! Somebody knows! Speak up!!!!

I'm about to drop a lot of money on accessories. I don't really want F body because there is more aftermarket speed parts out there that fit Corvette accessories. But if I have to then I have to.... help me out!

Looks like C5 Corvette AC compressor does not fit with Spohn K-member. No mention of interfering with motor mounts.

Right. The question I have is whether or not the AC will fit. I can't live without my AC!

Get the quik bracket, or be a pioneer and dive into it yourself and let everyone else know what happens!

I am contemplating buying the Vette accessories soon, to see if it will work but I am on the fence. I am going to start looking for an LS3 pull out engine to put in my car and that COULD be engine money.

Or you could buy just the bracket and compressor and try those alone.....

True enough. Pace Performance has those for $100. They buy GM accessory kits and when a customer buys it without AC they just sell the AC parts for cheap.

I just bought a F body setup with water pump and pulley/damper. Somebody bought it new for fitup and didn't like the fit. Went in a different direction.

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

I may have found a solution. In visiting other websites about retro fits, its seems you can use the vette bracket with the back mounting hole ground off. It seems its just "floating" out there with nowhere to bolt too. Thats the interferance. They also used a GTO compressor which fits perfect and throws the AC connect lines on the side of the compressor. The compressor pulley is 6 ribbed but they used the stock 4 rib belt and utilized just the front 4 ribs on the 6 rib pulley of the GTO compressor. Said it works like a charm. I'm going to look into some stuff and see what happens.

My luck nothing will bolt up due to year variences lol I already check out my bracket on the car and it will fit with the back hole chopped off.

I ordered my corvette compressor and bracket, will be here today. So I will be able to sell whether the compressor will work with the Spohn mount setup

Yeah, that isnt the Corvette bracket. I will take pictures later of what I got. It sort of wont work, but it may be possible. The back of the compressor is most likely going to butt all the way up to the Spohn mount, basically the through bolt head is going to be in the way. The only way to use the Vette AC compressor may be with custom mounts and holes in the crossmember. For me this isnt a problem because I would be modifying the crossmember anyway for other reasons and I can just move stuff around as necessary.

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

Definitely different bracket on the CTSv LS6... there are four bolts that go into bracket for the AC, then it appears four different bolts go in the block (you can see the top two). I took a horrible picture (apologies motor is still in the car) ... which is the first attachment but you cant really see anything.

Just for comparison, I took a pic of the LS2 bracket in my GTO too (second pic).

Thanks, Scooter. Even though I wanted compatibility with Corvette drive it looks like I made the right choice going with the F body setup. I just want plug and play without a lot of hassle.

Yeah, for me going the F-body route isnt desireable and since I am going to be buing a new GM crate, I would rather have all new accessories so I dont have a lot of options. This may mean running C5or C6 engine mounts too, and modifying the stock K to make them work. But I may not need to at all, may be doing something different all together once the rear of the car is done.

Also the C6 compressor has a side exit for the high/low pressure similar to that GTO one posted

IMO I think the best option for ease is the high mount AC, like the quik brackets.

Re: Let's revisit again -- Corvette accessories in 3rd gen

I got some more learning done tonight, pictures of it tomorrow.

The C6 A/C compressor MAY work with the Spohn mounts, but the bolt head is going to be VERY close to the back of the compressor. I can jack the engine up tomorrow and bolt everything up "outside" the car as I have not gotten to the notching of the crossmember part of my project. I am really working on the back of the car at the moment but I needed my friends hoist for something else and I decided to investigate.

Since I thought the Spohn mounts were not going to work I ordered the Dirty Dingo slider mounts and tried them. These are a better option for people if they want to use the vette compressor. You will need to drill new holes for the lower mount and I am not sure if any holes are going to overlap, but there is room to move the mount around.

The Dirty Dingo mounts are very well made and come with all the hardware. I got them on sale for $123 shipped, which is more than the Spohn mounts, but if you already have poly lower mounts for your Gen I engine then you dont need to buy anything else, so I guess they are a wash on cost.
