Think this is possible?
I was thinking about maybe swapping a 5.3l out of a 2000 silverado into my firebird in the future, i really like these motors due to the power aspect and the reliability of these motors, also they are really easy to find where I live.

Re: Think this is possible?
If you want Muscle get a 454 out of a 90-93 chevy truck, you would have to buy a 2 inch hood scoop, custom headers, goes right in not much trouble.the bad is you will not have ac.They look sweet under the hood to.its only 150 pounds more then a 5.7
I think the vortec would be alot more work installing, and a better engine overall.
Just my 2 pennies.

Re: Think this is possible?
The 5.3 is basically the same motor as the LS1, externally; just, makes less power because it's smaller.
Anything you read about swapping in a LS1 applies equally to the truck motor.
You'd be smarter to come up with a 6.0 instead. They're nearly as common.

Youll like it with the 5.3. Its a little motor but sure moves my heavy truck out well. Just some simple mods in your lighter car it should rip real well and youre right, you can beat the daylights out of it and it wont break.
Bigger is always better but if thats all you got go for it! Some home head porting (if you can) a reasonable cam headers (keep the stock intake) it will haul azz.

Re: Think this is possible?
well I want the 5.3l because my dad has one in his truck and he always lets me drive it, the other day we where at a stop light and i gave her quarter throttle and she spun out smoke was flying everywhere i was surprised. they have very good horsepower (270 - 310) and torque (310) also they are decent on gas like where i live to drive about 145km it takes 50 there and back.

Yes, this is an LSx swap. We have a sticky discussing the details. Within the sticky is a link that discusses what you have to do when starting with a truck engine (the 5.3 is a truck engine).
After you read the sticky and the aforementioned link, you'll know you need to replace pretty much everything attached to the longblock.
(Oh, moved this to the LTX and LSX Engine Swap sub-forum.)
