oil pan for a 5.3
hey guys just a quick question. can some one please tell me what oil pan i need for my swap.
my motor is a 5.3 from a 2002 truck. is it true this oil pan wont fit ? if so what is the one to get?
thank you and sorry if this is a redundant question that a simple search would have solved... i couldnt find a definative answer.

lol sorry man i'm just not confident if i dont get a straight answer on stuff and i read that the "f-doby" pan is the one that most are using but its always followed up with "modified" or something like that so i just wanted to make sure.
thank you very much for clearing that up for me. no more newbie questions from me i promise.... well till the next one that is

To be precise, it isn't because the truck pan won't "fit", it's because it will hang down very low compared to the rest of the car, making it susceptible to damage. The f-body pan sits up nice & high, out of harm's way.

Re: oil pan for a 5.3
If you buy a new F body pan from Scoggin Dickey, or other GM dealership, it will come with LS3 oil filter threads. LS1 oil filter won't screw on. Use something like a 2010 Camaro oil filter. It will save you one extra trip to the parts store and 30 minutes of scratching your head wondering why the filter won't go on. (I was a 2 trip person

Re: oil pan for a 5.3
I was one of those people too. I was using an AC delco filter and the factory camaro one is a PF46. same filter all the 99-06 trucks with gen 3s. I too spent a little bit of time scratching my head. The correct filter turned out to be a PF48 which is what all the 07 up use.
i ordered a oil filter with my pan and I didnt see anything about it taking a diffrent oil filter.... good info for the parts store guys.

Re: oil pan for a 5.3
From the Lsx truck engine swap thread:
Oil Pan: The truck oil pan is a deep sump system, which would be excellent if it could be used in the f-bodys. However, the pan hangs about 3" Below the k-member and unless you lift the car several inches, is a recipe for disaster. Do the right thing, swap the pan out for an f-body pan. You need the pan, windage tray, and pickup. I reused my o-ring from my stock pickup. I dont advise you do this, go purchase a new one. I got lucky on this.
