1992 LSx swap

Hi. I am new to the forums and new to building/swapping/working on/etc. engines. I recently purchased a 2003 5.3l Vortec from a wrecked silverado. I will be purchasing a 1992 z28 later this week, I hope. It will be a 82-92 IROC style for sure tho. I am not looking to do anything too crazy right off. I basically am just looking to swap the engine into the chassis and get it running well, then I will start tweaking performance etc.

what i have:
-2003 5.3l vortec (LM7) complete from oil pan to intake
-wiring harness and ecm matching the motor
-all the brackets for the truck accessory layout
-alternator and a/c compressor

what is missing:
-power steering pump
-chassis
-transmission

So basically, what I need to know is:
-will the basic F-body accessory layout fit into any 82-92 chassis?
-which motor mounts should i get from where?
-will the stock truck intake, fuel rods, etc. work? (chassis i should be getting has a cowl hood)
-will the stock truck exhaust manifold fit into a 82-92?
-what oil pan should i go with?
-can i run the mechanical fan that came on the engine?
-will a 4l60e bolt up to the engine without modification? and do the stock wiring harnesses work with them?
-do i need to do anything with the fuel system? i am not sure if what was in the 82-92 camaros would work with my engine.

My car will be closest to a daily driver more than anything. It won't be driven daily, but it will be driven often. I have about $1500-2000 to play with. And like I said I am not looking for anything more than just what the stock performance from the engine is, for now. I just want to get it in and driving for the time being. Any help/info is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks. Let me know if I left out anything pertinent.

Re: 1992 LSx swap

Yea, I stayed up late as crap last night reading every bit of the guide. But the main things I did not find are:

-will the stock truck exhaust headers fit into a 92 z28 chassis?
-will a mechanical fan setup that is stock on the engine fit?

Re: 1992 LSx swap

I'm not sure on the truck manifolds, but I know it's been discussed, so doing a search in that forum should give you all the answers you need.

As for the mechanical fan, that poses a bit of a challenge. I'm sure it'll line up fairly well with the stock radiator. You may just need to make a new fan shroud. The problem is that the trucks are the only LS motors with mechanical fans, and their water pump outlet causes other issues, as well as the fact that the truck accessories don't fit well in the cars, and the truck water pump won't work with f-body accessories. Plus the 92Z already has electric fans, so it doesn't really make sense to revert back to a mechanical fan. Just utilize the stock 92 fans.

No on both questions. The good news is 4th gen manifolds do indeed work, and you can buy those for $50 on ebay, LS1tech, etc etc. You can't use the O2 sensor on the driver side though, gotta plug it and install one downstream.

The fans are no big deal since the stock 3rd gen dual fans work great. Or stock 4th gen dual fans. Or any other "custom" electric fan setup you'd like.

Getting my chassis this weekend and just making sure what all mounts are needed. Do I need all these listed below?

Re: 1992 LSx swap

mounts on the left can be tossed, won't do any good in a 3rd gen swap. the ones in the middle appear to be 4th gen mounts, but are what you'd need to use the conversion mounts you shown on the right.

Re: 1992 LSx swap

ok, so the ones on the right take place of the original stock mount brackets that bolt onto the engine and then you mount the middle to the crossmember. is that right?

other way around, the red stands mount to X member, clamshells mount to engine, better off buying the clamshells used on LS1tech, cheaper.
