Im looking to get an exhaust done in the next few weeeks so Im set for spring finally. 4 Years in the making. I have hawks LTs, hawks double hump crossmember and a SLP loudmouth cat back. Im looking to get pics for a Y-pipe set up.
Also Im looking to run dual cats in the Y-pipe. Any reccomendations as i would need a 3inch cat thats small and will last but not restrict flow.
Any info, pics and ideas you have im open to. Thanks

Im sure you've seen it...but here's mine.

Obviously I dont have cats. But I DO have a fairly long straight coming off of my header collector that I could have put some magnaflow cats.
You can kinda see it here...the v-band clamp is hanging right about where the collector ended. The rest is an extension with the v-band flange put on.

I only did that to put the v-bands in a better spot, so you can really change that around if you needed to. I was going to use cats, but didnt have any on hand when I built that and never went back to re-do it.
Of course...that would be running two 2.5" cats not one 3". But you could easily slip a 3" cat into the y-pipe after the crossmember if you wanted.

mines a bit longer in the front for the husler mid-tubes, and nowhere near as nice looking as ghetto's! all it took was 2 "u" bends and a short chunk of a 4' stick to make mine.

I have 3" collectors into a 3"-4" flowmaster merge with a 4" cutout. Then back down to 3" into the muffler.

6SiX6......make me a Y pipe while your at it!!!!!! I'm at the same point in my build and have been looking at these pics and searching around trying to figure out what to do.
Has anyone tried a 4th gen ORY or is making your own the best way to go?

Keep the pics coming as I really want to see wha options I got.
Pop... 4th gen y-pipe is a no go. You would need to do more work than is required to make your own. Doesn't even come close.
If you aren't looking for stainless, just pick up some mandrel bends of different angles and chop it up. Tack weld it together then finish weld it out of the car.
If you don't have a welder or access to one obviously this becomes difficult. In that case an exhaust shop should be able to fab you something.
I used stainless mandrel bends from magnaflow. Forget where I got them from. Might have been summit or a wholesale site.
Good luck! The exhaust is def one of the more challenging parts of this swap.

Thanks for the info. You are right, this is going to be the hardest part of the whole swap. I'll probably do what you said and order the mandrel bent pipes and piece it together.
a couple shots of mine...

ghetto.....do you remember which bends and how many you got for your y pipe?
I was banking on my brother helping me at the garage he worked at that had a pipe bender for 3" but he just quit there for another job.

Did you have to cut and tweak the passenger side collector for clearence to the frame?Originally Posted by ghettocruiser

You only need to do that if you put V-Bands on the ends of the headers.Originally Posted by skinny z

Alan91z28 thats what Im looking for as you have the same set up I will be running. Do you got anymore as I'd like to model mine close to yours. I got 3inch collectors so i will have to run 2 3inch cats in the Y-pipe. I know it can be done for sure its just where to place them to make sure I got the ground clearence is all

You know...I cant remember haha. They were stainless bends from magnaflow, but I cant remember where I got em. Maybe Summit or some other online retailer. I just searched around until I found the best price. As for angles... I think I got a couple 180* and a couple 45*. I also had a Hawk's y-pipe that was stainless and the same diameter, so I cut some of that up too. Really a frankenstien deal. Here is a picture just after tacking the main portion together so you can get an idea of what the pieces look like.Originally Posted by POP6482

Not at all. The headers fit great. However since I used v-bands, I wanted the clamps to be in a good location. So I welded pieces onto my collectors to bring them out a bit. Like Z28 MeTaL HeAd said, if you were putting v-bands right on the collectors, you'd need to do something. Originally Posted by skinny z

Thanks....just put my order in with Summit. Got a couple 45 and 180's along with a magnaflow y pipe transition. I think I'm going to do something similar to what daddy33 did and extend the headers a bit w/3in. Hoping to put in on the car next weekend. I'll post some pics. Thanks again for your help.

i am going to work on pulling the rear 4" piece in front of the rear axle up some more as that is the lowest point now, i am thinking about using a 4" oval tube or potentially doing a dual exhaust, but the dual will probably wait to the next 3rd gen swap

Got the subframe connectors, y pipe, cut out and rest of exhaust on the car today. My brother did most of the work since it was his day off today. He was able to salvage some pieces from the old magnaflow Y, and used part of a
45* mandrel bend from Summit. I also had a 4ft section of straight 3" that he used under the driver's side. Overall it looks good and doesn't look as though there will be clearance issues when its finally on the road.

Well, mine's not as cool as some of the others, but I'll post 'em up. What you really can't see from these is that the ground clearance is pretty bad, specifically where the pipes go around the trans cross member.

^^^ Is that a Spohn crossmember? I had to get Hawks one because of the double hump for the pipes to go through. For sure made it better for pipes to tuck up and make for better clearance. But it looks good regardless

Quote:
Yep, that the Spohn cross member,I don't think there were any double hump ones out at the time I ordered it. Some point down the road I might have to have one made up so the exhaust can be redone.Originally Posted by daddy33

I would like to see these pics too. I was thinking about going this setup but since we are limited on space underneath our cars, its the reason why I went single 4"Originally Posted by 89ROC-Z

2.5". Magnaflow spun cats up by the tranny. You might notice that there is no torque arm in that pic - it ain't that way no more... (the cats are still there, but there is a Y-pipe to a 3" cat-back now - and a torque arm).Originally Posted by 89ROC-Z

So I finally got the car in the shop and I took these pics friday and the exhaust should be done tuesday or wednesday. Told the guy to take his time as Im in no rush as they are pretty busy with other cars at the moment
Driver header with V-bands. Had the header cut on a slight angle and welded to clear the frame rail

Driver side is the same

Rear shot

Hes also doin my torque arm too

hawks longtubes and single 4"

I don't have any of the current setup...but it's kinda thrown together and janky looking at the moment...
