ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

Hi.

Just curious, but is it worth the 800 dollars for the hawk headers instead of original ls1 manifolds? i´m gonna put in a 5.3 truck engine and keep it almost original except intake.

Only if you want extra power, ls motors usually respond well to exhaust upgrades

okey. another question. what dimension is to big for a 5.3 engine? i´thinking of going dual exhaust. 2.5" or 3" all the way

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

I swapped in a 5.3 with no cam, a set of shorty headers for a 98-02 ls1 f body are nicer looking and flow better. Manifolds are just for a ultras budget assuming you find them for nothing.

Full lengths are for looks and trying to get the most power.

so shorty headers from f body 98-02 works with lsx swap?

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

These were 300$ or so, found then used for 175, fit perfect, you just need the flanges for the y pipe...or whatever exhaust you want.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

Shorty headers aren't really going to gain any power over stok manifolds if you use the later manifolds. Save the money and use stock manifolds if you don't have a need for the extra power the long tubes will get you.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

How much gain eould it do with full length headers? Does headers from f body 98-02 full length headers work or is it only the hawk headers that fits?

Only the headers offered at Hawks will work for longtubes.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

I went with the 2.5's collectors since I got them used. I'm north of 400 RWHP and 11 sec times. No complaints.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

For a mild 5.3 you could probably do just fine with the cheaper imported Hawks headers.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

or you could get a set of coated mid-lengths from brp hotrods (hedman husler's) for a great price...and have 1 3/4" primaries with a 3" collector. they are specifically made for a 3rd gen with an ls swap. check my build thread for pics.

i´ve found the headers and your project thread. how is the quality on those headers? have you mounted them on the engine yet?

the quality is awesome, they have 1700 miles on them in the car....if you read my thread there are tons of pictures showing how they fit on the car.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

I have the same question? I just bought a 2002 c5 ls1 engine with shorty headers included.. will they fit on my 3rd gen?

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

None of the corvette exhaust will fit a 3rd gen

Since you're here, the C5 batwing oil pan wont clear a factory K-member either. That'll have to be switched for a Fbody version or use a tubular K-member to clear the C5 pan

Yeah got all of that done already just wondering about the headers that came along with the engine. Thanks for the help.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

My apologies for grave digging but, I have been searching for an answer regarding Ls1 exhaust manifolds from a corvette. Will these vette manifolds fit down into engine bay on my LQ4.

They will physically bolt on to the engine but will not clear the engine mount. So no.

I am not 100% certain but I do believe they clear the firewall. I would read the stickies above and search a bit to make sure. I could be wrong. Might want to invest in a cheap set of LS swap headers.

Re: ls1 manifolds or hawks headers?

ls1 fbody manifolds git fine, but on the driverside if you are using the o2 sensors in stock location..you can put a slight bend in the very top of the sensor to clear.most people relocate when fabbing up a y-pipe.
