Hi.
I wonder if a truck intake will fit under this hood: http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...2-SS-Hood.html. itīs 2" higher than original hood. iīve also planing to shave the intake.

It may,, hopefully you can get solid measurements, will be close I think. I bet it is for budget purposes.

im gonna watch this seeing as I have that hood and I would like to possibly swap a 5.3L or 6.0L in one day, and if the budget doesnt allow it at first I have no problems using a truck intake, they flow just fine...
Yes. It's a budget question. I hope its work, otherwhise i know that it will fit with a big block hood. But i think personaly that the ss hood is more cleaner

If I had time I could take measurements, will not be till the end of the week. I have both and a car to use for the result.

No, forgot, was getting my tail whooped putting a fuel pump into the 5.3 swapped 90 RS yesterday, i will see if i can catch a break and run to the other house and get a measurement.

No problem. would be great. thanks for you taking your time. If a ss hood would nott fit, is a 3" cowl hood very big? I mean, it must block much sight with a such a high hood?Originally Posted by ZONES89RS

I would be willing to bet a 3 inch would do, I have a 4 inch on my camaro with a victor jr, 2 inch carb spacer, as well as a air cleaner that is another few inches high and not a drop base, a 3 inch would nearly clear all of that, so a SS will more than likely work with the truck intake, as well as free up money allowing the use of truck accessories. Will have measurements in a bit.
Ls1 was 6.5 from the valley cover, the truck, damn near 11 inches...

You can pick up a regular LS1 intake for about $50 on LS1tech. Doesn't get any cheaper than that (especially compared to a $400+ hood).

You forgot the 300+ accessories, injectors, rails ect not included with the intake.

When I bought a regular LS1 intake for $50 it came with the fuel rails.
The truck MAP sensor, injectors, TB and everything else will work with the car intake. All he needs is the intake manifold and fuel rails and they can be had very cheaply on ls1tech

I was told the injectors would not work with the ls1 intake.

The injectors that I am using on my LS6 intake came out of a Silverado. I know some of the plugs on different years were different and would require an adapter harness, maybe that's what you're thinking of?Originally Posted by ZONES89RS

Not sure about the truck intake, I would assume so. The swap I did for a buddy, he already had a demon carb and with no fuel injection stuff it was his preference to use the edelbrock/msd combo. It ran really good! But yeah wish I could tell you for sure on the intake. I have an intake laying around, but my engine isn't in my car right now so I'm essentially no help.
Didn't someone modify the truck water pump outlet to allow the use of the ls1/ls6 intakes?

If I can, I will put the truck intake on my RS, see how much room is to spare on the 4 inch hood.

Hate to bump an old thread but I'm in this exact situation up here in Canada car intakes are rare and if available they cost as much as a new hood by the time its shipped here. I already have the truck intake complete so I'd like to use it with the SS hood. I gather that a 3 inch cowl seems to be the norm to fit a truck intake but has anyone actually tried with the SS hood with success?

I think it really depends on mounts. I have been taking some measurments on mine since i plan on making a Pro-Flo fit under the stock hood.
I can fit a 3.5" block on top of where the EGR is and shut the hood no problems. When i put a 4" block it just hits the hood supports. Measuring around 9.300" from the valley cover. The pro flow is 9.6ish and im pretty sure a truck intake is a tad shorter.
If you plan on waiting a bit stay in contact. Ill be trying this out after the car is done for the year and should have my ls1 intake and holley rails for sale. Im also in Canada

Thanks Jay_rich that's very helpful. Feel free to PM me your findings anytime I was a ghost to this site for years but now I check back at least once a week that my 84 project is back on the main burner. From what I've read you can shave a truck intake and it comes just shy of 9". I'm assuming you have an SS hood.. was that measurement you took in the center of the intake or at the tightest point at the front? Really appreciate your help thanks!
EDIT: Sorry re-read that you have a stock hood! Also I'm not familiar with the pro-flow intake to know where the EGR is could you elaborate?

Sorry yes I have the stock hood. I measured from the EGR hole behind the throttle body on top to my hood. Which 3.5" fit no problems. Unsure how high a stock intake sits but a rough measurement gave me very close to 9" from the valley cover to the top of the block. I was also able to fit it at 4" but it did touch the hood. I believe that measured around 9.3-9.4".
The Pro-Flo doesnt have EGR on it since its an aftermarket tunnel ram design. it sits about 9.6" from the valley cover. (the LS2 throttle body version) I plan on trying to squeeze that under the hood with drop mounts.

Thank you for clarifying that. What mounts were you planning on using? I'm still collecting parts for my swap and haven't chosen a set yet but I was unaware lower mounts were available. Is there any oil pan issues on the k member with the mounts you were referring to?
