Cam for the LM7
Well with tax time approaching i figured that would be a good time to do a cam, stall, gears since i have been dumping all my money into the body lately.
SOOOOOoooooooooo..........
Im thinking the TSP 288R kit on a 112LSA with the dual spring PRC .650 springs
with a ported LS6 oil pump.
And for a stall im going to get the Yank3600SS
For gears i cant make my mind up between 3.73 and 3.42... We take this car on all of our road trips and I drive it everyday so im thinking about going with the 3.42's. Im open to opinions on this one.
This is a daily driver, i drive about 20 miles round trip at 55-60 the whole way. I want a good driver that will run a high 12sec 1/4 mile. I think this setup will get me there. I hear people saying with a stock lm7 they are getting mid 13's... i dont think this is a mid 13 car but i have crappy 2.73 gears.
Anywho let me know what you think about this set up as far as drive-ability.

Re: Cam for the LM7
The 228r is a great cam for a daily driver. And both gears would be fine but if you do long road trips a lot 3.42's would be better and get better gas mileage. Also try to pick up an LS6 intake. Much better than the stock ls1

Intake is probably a good idea too. It looks like they have came down in price a little also.

Ported and polished 3/4 race cam all day baby.
I think the 228 above is a really great bump stock for the 5.3s. All day.

Re: Cam for the LM7
I had a 224/228 cam in my 5.3 and it worked great..... and cam really is gonna be a bump from stock. Are u out to make the most power or want a reliable spring friendly setup?

Re: Cam for the LM7
Well...... I'm looking for the most power i can get and it drive great. I wouldn't be really excited about having to change springs every "X" amount of miles but I think i could do it if it was worth it.
Did you have something else in mind? I'm down to go bigger if i can. I just wanted to see what all yall have had experiences with and what worked.

Re: Cam for the LM7
possible but not likely. Im probably going to put a 6.0 in it next summer. It just needs a little more pep to keep up with the new cars. Mid to high 12sec car should do it.

Re: Cam for the LM7
I wouldnt run those springs personally. Id run the pac1518 beehives on that cam. Probably worth some ponies and easier on your valves and lifters if your DD'ing it the duals are overkill ( Which im typically a fan of )
Id also run this cam instead.
http://www.engpwrsys.com/index.php?a...od&productId=5
It'll give up MAYBE 5-10 hp at peak, but make more under the curve so id bet it would et better especially with those tall gears your running
4.10 gear swap? Fine do the 228R but this is what id run with 3.55 or lower gears
Not to mention those EPS lobes are the latest greatest. Very smooth and quiet yet make wicked power.

Re: Cam for the LM7
The reasoning for the dual springs was for safety.
I don't want to sound like that guy that is just looking for sound but that shorter duration + the bigger LSA is going to tame it down at idle, how much i don't know... I cant find a video for my life. I don't mind loosing a little power for better reliability but i really want a good sounding idle. I just hate saying that because of all the people that just throw a cam in for the sound... Im not that guy its just icing on the cake.

Re: Cam for the LM7
The difference in sound will be minimal between those two cams and if you raise or lower the RPM about 200 at idle? You can make either sound much nastier, or much tamer. Its al in the tune there so dont worry about that.
Theres more to cams then just duration, the lobe is key and them eps cams utilize a unique lobe that gives a lot more lift at comparable durations so get the next size up cam if you want untunable permanently lumpy idle with slower performance on stock heads. But what do I know? Ls1's werent designed for higher port velocities so its best to stick with sbc lobes i guess right?

Re: Cam for the LM7
I run single conicals on my 6.0 with te trex, 3 years with zero problem and hitting the rev limiter above 7k every time I drive it. Duals are over kill but my info should give more than a piece of mind. Lol
