just got them today. super excited to get them in and check for fitment issues. im sure just like any other bolt on part its not exactly just "bolt on" here are some pictures of them on the engine stand. i will update how they fit this weekend. Paul

 

So, headman makes LS swap headers now?

I had it in my head they were going with a flat collector. Looks like they went away from that. Or, I remembered wrong.

No O2 bung, it would appear.

 

comes with o2 bungs, you have to knock holes in the collector and weld em on. 550 shipped from jegs. refused to buy the hawks. hopefully these fit decent!

 

If you have one little issue with fitment, you'd better post all about it here. With all the bashing Hawks has endured (I had absolutely no problems with two sets), it's only fair to point out all the pimples and warts of the competitor products.

 

right off the bat, you can see from the picture how long the header tubes are before the hit the collector, obv those are going to have to be cut, and fitted, and the tabs re welded on, i already verified that measuring off the face of the tranny. also notice alot of you guys put the motor in with the k-member is that must do? taking some quick measurements, it looks like the pan will be tight but should make it if i slide the trans back a 1/2 to 3/4''

 

Really interested to see how these fit. If they fit great then hawks may be inclined to look into the issues that (have, but not alway) risen with the ssw ones. I know hedmen has been known as a cheap header in the past, but I was happy with a set I had with my abc setup. We're on the car for 3-4 years and still looked almost as nice as they day I put them on.

The issue with hawks, is that they seem 100 percent unconcerned with the fitment problem when it pops up, and its not a result of in-compatible parts.

 

hedman/brp long tubes were a flat style collector last i knew. i guess that changed since they probably didnt sell well at all. i know streetdemon loves his mid length headers and fitment was spot on with those.

are these longtube headers 3rdgen specific from hedman? got a part number?

502-45070 this is a jegs part number. they are thirdgen specific. on hedmans website they recomend you use thier mounts for clearance, but im doing an odd ball combo and im not going to buy a 4l60e cross member and not use it, wel see how it goes ill try and take all pictures that i can. im running a spohn torque arm and crossmember, i know those arent really too friendly when it comes to exhaust, but we will see. ive seen on here where a few guys roll offsets thru the top of the crossmember, i think i could do that with 2.5 pipe, i would have to do something with my shifter cable to get that out of the way.

 

i dont know where you see that its thirdgen specific,all i find is that part number listed for the 67-69 fbody on jegs and on hedman website. on the hedman website itself lists the 45730 for 1 3/4 longtubes which is flat collector for the 82-92 fbody ls swap headers. i hope im wrong for your sake or somehow the first gen ls swap headers actually fit our cars and we just dont know it yet but thats isnt the right headers for our cars..maybe they sent you the wrong set.the shape of it doesnt seem like it would work on a thirdgen either.

Im trying to be positive and say im wrong here..maybe all of us just missed out on those headers working on 3rdgens :S. We shall find out soon when the op either calls jegs/hedman ahead of time to confirm what he has is meant for this application..or he tries to install them in the car and they either fit..or really dont fit at all.

 

My first thought upon seeing the pictures is the collectors went straight back too far, and wouldn't fit in the frame. But, I assumed they were 3rd-gen specific, so let that go.

If the p/n stated is correct, then they are not made for a 3rd gen. To get them to fit would require major modification to the frame. Even then, the primaries may not fit within the chassis.

Assuming the OP has a Fbody pan installed, the headers seem to drop down very far in comparison to hawks/ssw ones. Here's a pic similar to the OP's, but with ssw 1-3/4 3 longtubes.

ya just got off the phone with customer service, they sent first gens grrrrr

 

mistakes are made all the time,hopefully thats what return/exchanges are for.but they do look nice on the stand if that makes you feel any better lol?

 

might send them back and just go for hawks....

 

thanks for the catch guys, lol ive been so busy with work and school i didnt have time to cross reference what i wanted between what i actually got. would have found out on sunday! just glad theyr still raw, and not all scratched up!!!!

 

atleast they acknowledge they sent you the wrong part.you could always try to negotiate for the mishap and have them send you the correct headers for our cars but know that the collectors are flat not round.I have yet to see anyone using them yet on here to verify how it fits and performs though.

 

i think they make bb headers like that too, where there header pipes lay flat on the floor boards but those go to a round pipe, so the collector on those should be flat too?
