4th gen gauges in a ls1 swap third gen?
Gathering parts for my build and wondering if i grab a 4th gen ls1 cluster if i can install it in my dash but keep third gen interior? I'm keeping a/c and do not want to do a fourth gen dash swap. my car is a 91 so doing the gauge cluster should be easier than if i had a pre 90 car. If I use the fourth gen cluster will this save me on what wiring I have to do with the ls1 to get everything working? I'm doing a ls1 tank also. Already have the motor and it's either a 99 or 2000 going by head numbers. Car will is getting swapped to a t56, was an auto. Really would like to update the gauges in the car, plus figured it might make everything easier if i did the gauges. Would obviously need the cluster and probably the dash harness, just didn't know about wiring the a/c part of it or if its possible.

i did but couldn't find anything that talked about swapping the cluster and keeping the third gen ac stuff. Found only a thread or two that should 4th gen gauges in a third gen but didn't really talk about it. The other ones talk about a whole dash swap which I don't want to do.

At least one member swapped the 4th gen cluster into the 3rd gen dash. I don't recall details such as the year of the 3rd gen, or whether Camaro of Firebird.
If I have time, I'll see if I can find it. But, you might try different search terms yourself rather than waiting for me.
Or maybe someone else reading this thread knows about it.

I will try to look his stuff up. I tried several different search terms and couldn't come up with anything. Can't believe I'm the only one that would have wanted to do this. Figured it might make the ls1 swap wiring easier if i can keep the cluster running on the ecm for the ls1.

Re: 4th gen gauges in a ls1 swap third gen?
If the reason for updating to a ls1 cluster is for ease of wiring the guages, I would say its a step backwards as far as simplicity goes. Getting factory thirdgen guages to work on a ls swap is not difficult.
If you are interested in the astetics of a different guage cluster, the. That is another story.
The ls1 guage cluster "may" be easier to wire up, as the guages run off serial data, but if it is, any time saved (if any) would most likely be offset by physically getting the cluster to fit the gen3 dash.

Looks are part of the reason. My car is a RS so figured this would be a good way to get a 145mph speedo also.
