Project Torch coming together. Cammed lq4/t56

After what seems like the longest winter,Im finally able to start doing my swap from my old crispy 87 t/a to my hard top 86 t/a. Ive managed pull the 305/700r4 out last night.Ran all my wires for the ecm, mount the pedals and drill my holes for the clutch master and for the shifter.Since this car was a 305 carb motor, all my wires are fused at the original fuse panel.I dont like adding another panel under the hood when there was so many empty slots to make this a clean wire job with factory appearance.Since this car also did not have a/c,Im looking into using my cruise control on button to trigger my secondary fan manually in the event I start over heating or for those hot summer days in traffic to keep things cooler.

This weekend I have limited time but the car should be back on the road by mid week.I need to swap out gas tanks and run my fuel line, install lowering springs, bilsteins struts/shocks,replace worn idler arms and then schedule a retune.

The only upgrades done to the motor was adding 243 milled heads .030 and installed my pac 1218 springs from my 317 heads and stock new mls gaskets.I hoping to have around 10.6:1cp for a healthy power increase.I wont be running the mid length 1 3/4 headers yet as Im strapped for cash to do the exhaust the way I want so for now sticking to the stock 02 fbody manifolds and 3in cat back.God I miss ls power lol

People still havnt caught onto me LOL they think its a 350 with a loud exhaust. I never tell people at all what I got and the few that know either helped me out workin on it or learned the hard way.

I love idiots with mommys honda that put a exhaust and cold air intake and think they can take me on winston churchill LOL

Lol.. I enjoy the imports and select few euro cars rolling along hwy7 not expecting anything to come out of my car as quiet as my cammed lq4 was before.I think a cruise night with our cars would be in order sometime

so today got alot of the swap done.might try to wrap it up tonight.i forgot to mount the tick master cylinder before dropping the motor in first since i had all the open room to snake it in there..opps.but got the tank, fuel line, trans, exhaust all back up together.

my friend was bored after getting the trans back in so he took my cross member and cleaned it up abit lol

Re: Project Torch coming together. Cammed lq4/t56

My swap is complete... she runs drives.. and my god do i miss her.Pulls rape ape uptop but it does need a retune for the added compression. I need to reassemble my interior and clean up alot of wiring but the major headache are out of the way.It will take me a long time to get this car up to my standards for a clean underhood but for now..I need her to drive. It was a rush swap but i can smile while not burning $20 a day on gas from the old 305. more pics and videos will soon follow this weekend is first test and tune

Re: Project Torch coming together. Cammed lq4/t56

lol ideally i wanted to have it done in 3 days.which is totally reasonable considering its all from another car..but long weekend ruined all my shop time plus being tired from work means making.. or forgetting to install parts and going backwards lol.

"Yo man what u got under the hood, a 350?"

I hear that everytime somebody asks me about my car at a stoplight.

I can't wait to tell them no, when I get my ls1 in.

or I could fool them, and slap a 305 HO decal on the back window as a joke.

Re: Project Torch coming together. Cammed lq4/t56

Yea id like to make a swap thread that shows alot of detail about the ins and outs of the swap..really its pretty easy once you wrap your mind around it.I got this done rather quick but not fast enough by my standards.I feel I gained alotttt more power and fixed many small issues that held me back before.Im peeling 3rd like no tomorrow after a quick pull down the block.

For those of you who have android or iphone with an ls swap.I highly recommend investing $15 and getting a bluetooth elm327 obd2 adapter and get the app called torque pro. gives you realtime data of all sensors, calculates mpg,1/4m,1/8m,hp tq etc etc..fully customize gauges with gps tracking.I tried it for the past hr driving around and this is what it says im roughly making at the flywheel.I sure hope its close..
