Ls1 swap tutorial video?
I think it would be a awesome idea if someone would make a Ls1 swap step-by-step video. It would be such a great help to not to only me but everybody doing the swap. Someone should make one!

i've done several of these swaps now...the first one was pretty intimidating, but it's not near as bad as you might think.

Oh i agree. they are probably not as bad as i believe, however my skill level for that swap is not at that point yet. i think its more all the wiring that turns me away from it, not a fan of wiring haha

Dropping an lsx in a thirdgen isn't hard to do.

I kept silent when you first posted this, because I knew I wouldn't be the one doing it.
My thoughts are I'd need a dedicated videographer because setting a camera on a tripod and turning the camera on would probably result in hours of useless data that would have to be extensively edited, and what you're really doing probably wouldn't be captured unless someone could point the camera where it needed to be as the process was being accomplished (hard to do with greasy hands, and while your hands are otherwise occupied). And, as I'm finding out in my 3rd LS swap (first two being 3rd gens, the 3rd not - 4th if you count the work we've done on my son's S10 Blazer), I tend to figure out things as I go, so the task would be done before I figure out it should have been videoed.
There are also so many variables from swap to swap, I'm not sure how you could cover them all. Are you doing a stock swap, or modifying? Manual or auto trans? Starting with a manual or auto car? Starting with a non-EFI or EFI car? Factory 4th gen f-body exhaust, or headers? AC or non-AC? Aftermarket tubular K-member or stock K-member? Whose swap mounts? Where will the PCM be mounted? And as has been hinted at, factory EFI, aftermarket EFI, or carb? (many variables with each of these) Daily driver, weekend cruiser, or trailered to the track? Emissions-compliant, or not? What I've done for my swaps would be almost completely useless for Matt (although he did sell me a set of Cometic head gaskets, which he probably wishes he had back...). Okay, we could go on, but you get the picture.
I'm not disapproving of someone taking a shot at this, and I'd be happy to post links in the LS swap sticky. I just want to set reasonable expectations.

Re: Ls1 swap tutorial video?
Nah, those head gaskets wouldn't work for the big bore, and not worth using on my junkyard motor. And I don't know if you remember, but I was efi for a little while.
What might be better is a PowerPoint presentation, or several presentations, outlining the variances and covering in detail what's going on. But then, why not just read the sticky? Lots of successful swaps done on this site from reading them. My theory is, this shouldn't be your first engine swap, and if you can't get it done with the info already readily available on this site, then maybe you should hire some help.

"streetable" is too subjective to use in an argument in my opinion. my carb'd setup sees a ton of street miles.

Re: Ls1 swap tutorial video?
"Street able" is subjective to the driver. I grew up with carbed car and have zero issues driving them. Some friends on the other hand, can't even get my 73 Chevy plow truck out of the yard, and consider that not even "street able".
As far as info here for ls swaps, its absolutely amazing. I was doing reading on s10 websites for a possible project, and they don't even have pinouts available for the s10s, let alone entire spoon-fed guides to wiring like we are lucky to have here. This place is truly a wealth of knowledge, most other car communities would be jealous to see the mass of info we have.

Re: Ls1 swap tutorial video?
I see this was a good thread to start
hopefully one of you guys are awesome enough to make this video.. I would if I knew what to do. I really don't want to go carb like alot of people, I'm trying to get good mileage along with good power.

Re: Ls1 swap tutorial video?
It looks like this whole thing is spiralling out of control..Everyone is making valid points to every variable of what kind of swap, do's and dont's,etc...If he wants to make the video he must be prepared for the extra work its going to take (like five7kid said editing, camera angles,etc.). Alot of members would benefit from seeing physical objects instead of reading about them. I myself have read and read and read some more, but there are still things im not so sure and not comfortable doing an LS swap my self. I have done plenty of carb swaps no problem and can do v6-v8 swap in my sleep now..thanks to this site (the reading and stickies) i knew NOTHING and it did take time and figure out on my own.Everyones skills move at a difference pace. Some people need a video, others need notes, and some do it from pure knowledge. Hopefully this comment isn't going to be made negative..thats not my intentions lol but to make it short and simple some people need that extra help lol

Re: Ls1 swap tutorial video?
theres probably enough youtube videos of the parts of the swaps to make a complete compilation of the entire swap into a car in general, in stock form. pretty sure no one would want to piece them all together though.
