First start up in a few months

I know this may sound noob and stupid but I really dont want to screw my motor up

So I got a question for you all as to what I should do as my motor hasnt been run since november 11th when I parked the car.

My question is am I able to just start it or should I pull the fuel relay and turn it over a few times? Or is there another way?

Ive never had a car sit this long ever without running it every few days.

Check oil, then start it up as normal.

Do not just start it up! I pulled the fuel relay and crank the car over for 10 sec and build oil pressure up.I did this twice an then put the relay back in and it should fire nicely and not dry uptop. Once its running..get it nice and hot..check all fluids, fresh gas and do an oil change a week from now.

Re: First start up in a few months

I parked my Berlinetta in late October due to a leaking water pump on my OPTI. About 2 weeks ago I finally got the electric water pump installed. Once it all the lines were re-connected and a battety was installed I turned the key and started it right up.

It only takes a turn or 2 to get the oil pumping so I can't see the difference between cranking a motor for 10 seconds or jsut simply turning the key. Either way the top of the engine will be dry for the first couple revolutions....

Re: First start up in a few months

My question is why chance it,it only takes a few seconds to just re-prime the motor and then fire it up after the long. The amount of threads popping up from guys on tech recently just going through lifters from dry starts and having noises appear a week or two later is odd I guess.

But depends how it was stored too,I had fuel stabil in my motor and started it once every 2 weeks and even then the amount of condensation it had from winter storage in my garage was uncomfortable considering how cold we were up here. Its your car and treat it how you like,it will start regardless...

Re: First start up in a few months

Cranking the engine for 10 seconds as opposed to starting it up isn't going to make a difference. Best to let it idle to get the oil flowing to the heads for a minute or so and then drive it.

Re: First start up in a few months

Mine sat for about 6 years and it fired right up. Shouldn't need to prime it as it will take less than a second for oil to be completely circulated. I could understand if it was a dry motor, but there is still plenty of oil in the passages of the block. I expected to have all sorts of problems with mine, but it was fine as if it never sat. check the oil and fire it up.
