GTO power steering pump?

I'm in the middle of a ls swap using a 04 GTO motor and I have now noticed that the GTO pump looks like the pully is smaller than the Camaro ls pumps. Any knollage on this or does it matter?

Re: GTO power steering pump?

If you are using all the GTO accessories, it shouldn't make a difference. But if you are mixing and matching then your belt will be too big/too small depending on what else you have going on.

Re: GTO power steering pump?

I guess the other thing I was wondering about is the pressure output between 4th gen Camaro pumps and GTOs. The racks in both cars were probably not the same.

This is a concern.

However, I think Lee's Performance can revalve the pump so it outputs the correct volume and pressure for our Steering gears.

I had him revalve my LT1 power steering pump.

Rack and Pinion requires much less assist compared to the Steering gears in our cars. I noticed it because the idle speed needed to be kept up or steering became difficult at low speeds in the GTA after the LT1 swap.

Are you talking about http://lee-powersteering.com/ when you reference Lee's Performance? A GTO motor with GTO pump is what I am currently working towards for my swap. The pump output is a question that has been running through my mind but have not yet inquired into.

Thats the place. I think it was $125 for the re-valving and a new seal kit.

Do you have an fbody pump to compare? Is the shaft diameter/offset the same and diameter is the only difference?

I don't have a 4th gen pump to compare to. I was hoping someone may have already done this.

Re: GTO power steering pump?

When I was doing research on it last year I couldn't find anyone that directly compared the two. I was actually looking for a smaller pulley to replace my fbody one. I can get some measurements off mine and we can compare?

Re: GTO power steering pump?

The GTO is 6.2 inchs. But what I wonder is why they would be differant. Does one of the racks require more or less pressure. Or did the Camaro have the larger pully to slow the pump down for all the throttle happy drivers.

Re: GTO power steering pump?

I can't get a perfect measurement but the fbody looks around 6.75" diameter. No idea on pressure requirements. Do you happen to have shaft diameter measurements and maybe depth?

Re: GTO power steering pump?

The bore is 19mm or 3/4" without pulling it off I can't be exact. And the depth is 25mm + or -

Re: GTO power steering pump?

I swapped a GTO LS2 into my 92 Camaro and I just hooked my stock steering box to the stock LS2 pump. I used a 4th gen power steering line for the pressurized side. And it all hooked up without issues and it works exactly as it did stock; no issues.
