5.3 turbo build manifolds or headers?
5.3 turbo build manifolds or headers?
ok im doing a 5.3 turbo build. im to the point of putting the manifolds on. I was thinking in my head that I would just put them on backwards and run pipe to the turbo right in front of the motor. well after getting the motor in the manifolds hit the cross member so I have to put them on up side down. all that said it looks like the pipe could get close to the hood. how are you guys routing your manifolds and pipe? should I cut the ends off and weld on a v band so that the exit points to the front of the car or is there some really cheap headers that work? this is kind of a junk yard dog build so I don't want to go buy some high end headers. so all that said how do yall do it?

Manifolds will support pretty high power. If you can vband them thats best idea imo for ease of assembly and seal
Just need to find right set of manifolds that will work flipped forward

what manifolds seem to work? I have truck manifolds now off my L33 5.3 that came out of a truck, and they might work but are facing up like out the hood

Not really sure, havent followed the lsx manifold craze but i think the truck mani's flipped forward dont work. Hit the k member or steering box.

Re: 5.3 turbo build manifolds or headers?
I know this has been discussed here a lot, so doing a search should get you your answer. I just remembered reading somebody's turbo thread a couple days ago that discussed what manifolds. I believe that the general consensus is that the truck manifold works on one side, and an f-body manifold works on the other side. This isn't really enough to answer your question, but it should at least get you enough info to search out the answer.

Those turbo manifolds are way too large primary and collector. I built a set of log manifolds.
