LS1 Swap Alternator Relocation Issue's

Ok so im doing a ls1 swap in my g/f's 90' RS and the Tubular K-Member is getting in the way of the alternator so i wanted to run the Corvette Alternator / Power Steering bracket from a 1997-2004 on it so it would bring the alternator top side. I already relocated the A/C compressor to the top passenger side as well and was wondering if anyone on here would know beside the bracket what else am i gonna need for the Vette Alternator bracket and where the hell am i gonna be able to find a belt for this, lol.

You need the Vette damper, because the belt isn't as far forward on the Vette system as f-body or truck. Also, the AC compressor relocation bracket will have to be for the Vette application for the same reason.

When you have everything installed, run a string around everything in the route the belt will go. Measure the length of string required to form the complete loop. Subtract a little for the tensioner (forget how much I subtracted, I think 1/2" or 1" - took a couple of tries), take the length # to your parts store, get one that length. If they can't help you without looking up the application, go to a different store.

If its the Spohn K-member, the alt output stud hitting the chassis brace bracket is a common problem. Cut it off and the Fbody alt location will clear

That is the issue, now when i was reading if i cut that off and don't run the bracket the welds will weaken on the k-member and eventually break?

Re: LS1 Swap Alternator Relocation Issue's

That was Spohn's solution to the issue when I first found it. Considering how flimsy the bracket is, I dont see any chance of failure from chassis flex

The weak points are the notches in the main hoop for the tie rods, but thats a different thread

You didn't say how, but you said you already relocated the AC on the passenger side. The stuff from these guys will allow you to do that with the alternator: http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_alt_ps.html

You need to keep everything for the same system. The damper, AC, alternator, and PS all need to be truck, or they all need to be f-body, or they all need to be Vette.

Or, cut the brace.
