I was wondering what you guys thought of this build and if you think that their numbers are accurate. Also reading the lift of the hot cam and what I can find as the max lift of the head they don't explain how they got those two to mesh up. Also no mention of rocker ratio either. I am interested in doing this as a build but would like to keep it injected.

Re: Help a confused newbie out.
Your first post is that?
Do you already have an LQ4 swapped into a third gen?
If not, then you're starting on the wrong foot.
Figuring out the final combo for power is not the first step, though having a goal in mind is necessary.
Getting any LSx running in an any swap seems to be the most difficult part, especially when there's no ready-made tune for the exact parts combo.
Once the LQ4 is in, then get it dyno tuned for the headers, then change the heads, then get it dyno tuned, then change the cam, etc.
Also, I didn't read much of that build, but that was a carb-style intake, so they probably cammed it for a carb. A build like that, with LS3 heads, a FAST LSXR intake, and an EFI cam can easily see 500 HP, and 550 isn't out of the question.
But 550 HP for less money, with better road manners and half again the MPG made me choose a turbo on a stock 4.8L version. Just something to think about. And do you have smog testing? If so, then any cam that'll get that 6.0L to 550 HP isn't going to work out.

Maybe, who knows.
Maybe he doesn't have the car yet and this is just dream research or something, idk.

First off I would like to apologize for spending the last couple of weeks lurking this site trying to soak up as much info as I can so that I would not be asking any stupid questions. Now I see that all I did was waste my time seeing as how if you don't have hundreds of posts all you are is trash.
Yes this is a dream build right now until I sell my Rzr. I am hoping to find a car to replace the 85 Iroc I had when I was 19.
Also I have no plans to buy a junk yard motor to install only to change components later. I am planning on a rebuild with hopefully all the right parts to build once. I am not a fan of doing things twice just to try and save a few dollars.

Post counts don't matter, they aren't an accurate portrayal of knowledge, so don't fret on that.

Re: Help a confused newbie out.
I guess my plans have changed from an LS conversion to bbc. My stepdad has a 402 in the shop that pretty much just needs assembled and he is letting my have it. Now to search for a cam.
