4th gen shifter assembly

Hey Guys just finishing up my ls swap into my 87 trans am. I have a 4th gen shifter assembly from a 2000 Camaro with shifter cable and everything. Seems that no one has ever put the shifter in a thirdgen before. I also have the 4l60e tranny. Will this shifter work?
Thanks in advance

It's not just a straight forward swap? I don't have my old thirdgen shifter assembly.

I dont remember exactly but i think the 4th gen shifter mounts differently and sits too high for the console to fit over.

If using the 3rd gen console, use the old 3rd gen shifter and cable. From your old 700R4 remove the cable bracket and shifter arm from the trans. Bolt these directly to the 4L60E for a stock install

Re: 4th gen shifter assembly

hi pocket I could really use some advise, I am currently doing a 5.3 ls swap with the 4l60e trans and im really stuck on the shifter cable the linkage and shifter cable bracket on the trans, at first I took the arm from my 700r4 and used that bracket also with the original cable all worked great until I got my hawks headers. that way will not work the arm is in the way of the middle of the collector. I put the original 4l60 arm on and the headers now fit but the original cable from the 700 does not fit in the cable bracket the came on the 4l60. so I got a 4th gen cable and of course that didn't fit in that bracket either so I got a step bit made the hole bigger to make it fit then I realize that the cable is too short to reach the arm when it in the bracket. im kinda stuck now

Re: 4th gen shifter assembly

Turn the arm or shifter cable stud around to clear the collector. Its tight in that area no doubt but it will clear

Pocket. Do you know the wiring on a 4th gen shifter assembly?
Like to hook up nns and reverse lights?

Re: 4th gen shifter assembly

I couldn't get my OE cable to work properly with the 4l65e.So I modified a 4th gen cable (shifter side).Plus the bracket that mounts to the trans pan.
