LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
I am about to acquire a 93 z28 with a strong running lt1. Simply put I would like around 400hp and plan on doing some engine work before it goes into my iroc. I have an engine builder I will hand all the parts to when I get them. I'm torn between going 355 or getting a 383 kit from skip white, and getting the heads worked, cam, springs, and 1.6 roller rockers will follow, along with an lt4 intake or porting the original. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Looking to do this on the best bang for buck model. Thanks.

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
I'm actually in the same position, and would like to know what all would be the best bang for the buck. got a 40 over block, and 1.6 rr's. Don't know where to go next to reach 4-450hp. Also looking for future upgrade-ability with the parts i do buy.
Also in regards to this...did you have it dyno'd so you have an idea what kind of hp your putting out?

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
i dropped an LT1 into my 87 IROC with the same plans as you- drive it for a while and then when its time rebuild it the right way. In my digging i have found a few different ways to do that- Check out advanced induction systems, i have heard great reviews, there is also another fbody board that has a huge cam selection guide with some great advice.
Good luck- keep us all posted on how it goes

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
Block is at the machine shop. Ordered some 6" rods and forged flat top pistons to bump the compression up to make some more hp. Ordered a lloyd elliott cam 223/231 .557/.571 110 lsa. Lunati double springs and 1.6rr's. machine shop will do the short turns in the heads and open up the intake for me. He says I should be 400-425 hp at the crank no problem, maybe more depending on the tune when I'm done. I will keep everyone posted as things progress.

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
Im curious why people start with a low miles and/or strong running engine before completely tearing it down and rebuilding it and/or stroking it
You can grab a core for peanuts to do the exact same thing and be a good chunk of change ahead

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
The Car I was going to get only had 60k on it. It was sold out from under me, and I instead had to go with one with about 115k on it. It ran good but had a slight tick which sounded like a bad lifter. If it was low miles I would have just jumped into the top end and made it better.

Most likely the bottom end is fine. A slight tick is probably lifter or rocker arm.
I've been considering the 190cc package below for my '96 Vette.

Re: LT1 swap, Looking to upgrade motor
If you are looking for a good upgrade drop the money on the heads they will make a big difference. Let them spec you out a cam and you should be happy for awhile.
