Sbc engine mounts with ls adapter plates didn't work...

Title says it all. I've got about .25" more than I should on each mount causing the bolt hole on one side to not line up at all. Measured my friends sbc mounts and they were about that much shorter. Is there a certain type of oem mount I need? Its only the part that bolts to the block that is the issue I believe.

Whose adapter plates are you using?

Did you keep the SBC mount on the side of the car from which it came?

There is another solution, but it would be best not to post it in public...

ICT Billet plates. I did take the mounts out as I replaced the inserts. You think it's on the wrong side? The mounts looked symmetrical and the upper part (on the engine) was approx. 3.5" give or take each side.

They look symmetrical, but apparently aren't. I don't know if that's your issue, though.

I haven't heard of ICT Billet, so can't comment on whether the adapter plates could be the issue. I got mine off of eBay and they worked fine. The outfit I got them from were adamant that most adapter plates were made from too thick of plate stock - ????

They are 3/8" thick and it would probably fit if they were half that, but I'd be worried about strength at that point. I guess I'll switch the upper part of the mount around on Friday and hope that fixes it.

Yeah, mine are 5/16" thick. Good enough to put a 3850 lb '57 Chevy into the 11's.

Re: Sbc engine mounts with ls adapter plates didn't work...

Well I have the taller engine side mount on the passenger side which is correct I think... Maybe I should have lined the drivers side up first since it didn't fit, then the passenger?

Re: Sbc engine mounts with ls adapter plates didn't work...

After 2.5 hours with help from a friend we got it in. We flattened the raised section of the upper mounts in a press because they were causing the adapter plates to warp do to the hollowed out section of the plate not being in the right spot. He had to pry on the mount with a crowbar while I used an impact to get the bolt in. It's safe to say I'm not taking it back out unless it blows up.
