Charcoal Canister replacement
Hey guys
I put my LT1 in about 10 years ago when I was younger and had different goals in mind. I was one of those that took all my evap stuff out and threw it in the trash without a second thought, and now i just have a mini air filter sitting on the end of the fuel line in my engine bay. Along with this I removed my cats, and to say the least my car STINKS. I prefer some comfort when I drive my car now, so naturally I have replacement cats to be put on, and I want to try to replace the charcoal system that was on this vehicle. I don't know if you can run the original third gen stuff with an LT1 or not. Is there a simply DIY way to capture these fumes, and at least prevent the smell of raw fuel in the engine bay?
Thanks!

Me too. I used to love no cats/emission but now I prefer a cleaner car to few more hp.
I'm planning on following this article to refresh my charcoal canister.

I no longer have my canister. Would a stock setup work? What about the purge valve as I no Longer have the plug for it?

You could convert to a 4th gen take which has the canister built in. Might be easier than rerunning all the lines back to the engine bay for an OEM setup.

Second the 4th gen tank. The one issue is the sending unit. I went the hard route of using a different sending unit (the grand prix mod). If I had it to do over again I would of just drilled a hole in the tank and put an auto-meter sending unit in it (cheaper and probably more reliable). Get the wire from the tank to the floor pan and make sure the junk yard doesn't cut any of the lines. This will have the canister and valves etc. You will also want the filler neck. 98+ is plastic tank so that is even better.
However I'm running the full 4th gen PCM so not sure how you would handle the purge valve etc.
I would hit the junk yard though I don't see why the stock thirdgen canister wouldn't work, or look through Summit etc until you find one that would fit somewhere.

Re: Charcoal Canister replacement
I'm in the process of removing my third gen stuff as I'm installing a 4th gen tank. That said, there are a ton of people out there, both here in the classifieds and on facebook (look up Jason Fritz) who sell the stuff for reasonable prices.
