Sanden A/C compressor

My Sanden compressor locked up and snapped my drive belt. I replaced the belt, but now I need to buy a new A/C compressor. I bought mine off of ebay. I used the A/C in my car for about 3 hours total. I bought my compressor from ebay, and I think I got scammed.
Where is a good place to buy another A/C compressor?
Is there a shut-off valve that I can install? I'm going to have to recharge the coolant after replacing the A/C pump. Should this happen again, I want to avoid messing with R134.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

dont screw around with imitation Sanden compressors or remans, or "Sanden style"...

get an OEM Sanden. I went through two remans before learning my lesson and getting an OEM.

you can still get them on Ebay, but just make sure it's a genuine Sanden.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

Thanks - that’s what I needed to know. I went to Sanden.com . Looks like Vintage Air is an authorized distributor. I think I’ll buy a new compressor from them.

Dirty Dingo also sells them, as does Kwick performance.

Thanks - I bought the bracket from Kwik. I’ll check out their website too.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

I bought a Sanden 508 from Vintage Air. Some sites now sell the SD709, but I read that the 508 is better for ls swaps. Is it possible to install a shutoff valve at the compressor? If I run into a problem again, I’d rather not have to deal with refrigerant.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

Careful.... Sanden has a specific oil they say to use in their compressors. You may void the warranty if you run something else. SP-15 oil.

Mine actually came pre-loaded with the stuff. Check that as well before adding more oil.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

Thanks. I bought vintage air PAG oil, and I thought I saw in a Q&A section that PAG oil had to be added. I looked again, and I must have misread. Vintage Air says their compressors are preloaded with it.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

I found my answer in the bottom of the shipping box. Compressor is good to go.

Re: Sanden A/C compressor

I think I figured out why my A/C compressor failed. The Sanden comes prefilled with oil. This cheap copy from China was bone dry when I opened it up.
