Brake lines too close to headers? LQ9 Speed Engineering headers

So I am swapping a LQ9 into my GTA and I've looked at a lot of builds and pictures of peoples headers, the brake lines run over the steering shaft, it looks like they run really close to the header. Is anyone having any issues with it overheating the brake fluid? I'm thinking about bending the brake lines but if no one else is having an issue then don't fix it if it isn't broken. The speed engineering headers fit great btw if anyone is thinking of using them. I imagine the original 350 with headers must be close to those as well.

Re: Brake lines too close to headers? LQ9 Speed Engineering headers

I put the Edelbrock TES headers on my car several years ago and I put a heat shield between that heat and the brake lines in there. I didn't like all that radiant heat hitting those steel lines either. Brake fluid tolerates a bit of heat buy why take the chance.

Do what I did: Do the Astro van steering shaft upgrade, and while the shaft is out, bend the lines to where they are on the opposite side.

Re: Brake lines too close to headers? LQ9 Speed Engineering headers

I despise the Original brake lines in the Engine Compartment.

The large coiled sections of brake lines between the Combination Valve Assembly and the Intermediate Steering Shaft...
serve a purpose, as they act as stress relief.

I would relocate them as @dixiebandit69 did; if you do not wish to remake the brake lines.
I prefer to remake those lines from scratch.
Instead of using those large coiled sections of brake line...
I like to use sections of Braided Stainless-Steel PTFE-Core brake line:

Eliminate the bulky coiled sections with a small amount of flexible brake line.
If I used the flexible lines from the image above...
I would cut off the bent segments at each end.
Leaving just the flexible section and some straight tubing on both sides.

Install them as a right-angle brake line (using the flexible section for the 90 degree turn).
Similar to the image below:

I use the speed engineering headers and I don't have any issues with the fluid getting hot.

I am using red horse racing flexible brake lines. So far they are very flexible and easy to route almost anywhere you want them.

Those Brake Lines that I use are from a 2002 Buick Century.
I purchased around 200+ of them, when they were discontinued for something like $90.00

Many GM Vehicles (and probably many other manufacturers) use Brake Line Segments like in the Image I Posted.
I see them most often used, when connecting the the ABS Manifold/ Pump-Motor Assembly...
on many, many Cars.

Re: Brake lines too close to headers? LQ9 Speed Engineering headers

I recommend going to a junkyard where people have removed the engines from various vehicles; Find a modernish foreign vehicle with no engine, in the engine bay and underchassis there are various thin aluminum heat shields of various shapes and sizes, generally bolted in with 10mm bolts and such. These can easily be cut with tin snips & folded edge rolled, for a quick DIY heat shield reflector for low cost.

I am also using the Speed Engineering LS headers.

You can always go the extreme route with the brake lines.

I don’t normally hijack a thread like this, but I appreciate the compliments. I am responsible for the engineering and fabrication of this project in my 2 car garage, 99 percent of it single handed. While I have always wanted to do this for a living, the aviation industry is where I made my career. I would like to add that all of the knowledge and support you bring to this forum is greatly appreciated.

Definitely hijacked and totally worth it, that looks amazing. Great work!
I was already thinking about doing the astrovan shaft upgrade so I will probably do it all at the same time. I feel like it would just be a precaution.
