LTX and LSXPutting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.
Hello everybody I Have a few questions about removing wires that are not needed from my 86 Trans Am I installed a LQ4 from a 2003 Yukon Denali it is also carbureted. Well I should say was Carbureted I now have a holly sniper EFI not yet installed
But my main question was how to clean up the engine bay and remove wire harnesses I no longer need?
Everyone's swap is different so my best advice is to read the stickies above on wiring. You'll will be able to determine what circuits are no longer needed for your specific swap. Basically, you will reuse a lot of the wiring from the C100 firewall block, and you'll likely get rid of most of the engine control wires that route through the fender.
Anyway, the first thing I'd do is figure out which components you AREN'T going to use (injectors, rear O2 sensors, etc.), mark them, then strip off the wire loom and take them out.
Pocket has a few really great threads about customizing LS/ LT wiring harnesses to fit our cars.
Last of all, why in God's name do you want to use a Sniper kit when the LS engines come with superior fuel injection from the factory?
Everyone I've ever met who had a Sniper had problems with it.
I'd go to the junkyard, grab the intake/ injectors/ harness/ PCM off of a wrecked Silverado before I'd ever spend a penny on a Sniper, but that's just me.
Here are the threads that people generally reference, in the order they were created. My notes will save you gobs of reading, just jump to the relevant posts.
Sep 2009: How to prep a 3rd gen harness https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...p-3rd-gen.html Part I of the wiring guide. Stripping and prepping stock 3rd gen harness for integration with an LS engine swap. Key posts #1-3, 25. The rest is Q&A.
Mar 2010: LS1 harness revisited https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...revisited.html An abridged overview of a "plug & play" harness from beginning to end. Example based on LS1/T56 swap into 89 GTA. Key posts #1, 2.

This is how most of us do it that work on our own cars, we get hands on with it. Took me a long time to realize that all the planning and talk in the world won't get you as far as holding stuff in your hands. Go to something you don't need and take out the wires. Repeat until you're down to just stuff you still need. That's mostly just wiring for dash gauges and starter motor, maybe some other things.

ok thanks for that. Lol ford blue wasn’t thinking of that blue is my favorite color.
Actually I’m new to the LS swap had this car 16 years and my friends was like let’s LS swap our cars and was like ok.
I’m on a super budget and not too much swap knowledge so I went the carbureted route. I didn’t have luck with a good carb so I decided to buy the sniper.
So I got $600 to spend right.
I have 4 header bolts broken off-shop charges $20 to remove each broken bolt.
Since I have to take my (317)heads off and take them to the shop, I have a couple more questions for you.
What upgrades would you consider?
Different heads or get cam and spring the 317s?
What would you do in my position using the lq4/sniper and $600 spare bucks? Not counting getting bolts removed.

First of all, get rid of the damn Sniper. I'd let you know my true opinion of it, but I'd probably get banned for violating community standards.
Get rid of the 317 heads and get some 243/ 799 heads. Thank me later.

There is definitely some Power increase from the smaller Combustion Chamber of the 243-Design Heads...
But the 317-Design Heads are essentially identical, other than a larger Combustion Chamber.
I do not feel going from a 317 Head to 243 Head is worth the swap (just a small Power increase from a small Static Compression increase)...
However a Ported 243 Head or Aftermarket 243 Head, would be worth the swap (a more significant Power increase).
