My Camaro project
My Camaro project
Hi Guys,
I've been on this site a long time, but thought I'd introduce my own project that I'm close to finishing.
Purchased this 1991 Camaro Z-28 way back in 1992 with only 20k, did a few mods at a time, and then went crazy ! I've been doing all the new mods over the last 8+ years and as you can see I'm almost nearing completion. Looking forward to finally driving it again after being off the road all those years !
Exterior Modifications:
Audi silver base with Ford GT Tungsten grey accent "SS" stripes, 20"x10",
19"x9.5" aftermarket Corvette Z06 wheels painted in grey accent color, BFG 285/30/20, 255/35/19 tires, Fiberglass 3.5" Cowl hood, shaved original emblems, shaved door handles with remote entry, third brake light LED mounted in rear spoiler, Billet fuel door, converted to Caprice composite headlights
Interior Modifications:
Recaro seats, rear seats and door panels covered in matching Recaro cloth, custom headliner with black ultra suede, 6-point roll cage, complete Autometer instrumentation with custom panel and gauge pods, 4th gen Camaro console, B&M Ripper shifter, Momo steering wheel, 4-point harnesses, 3rd gen Firebird radio pod, real carbon fiber accents throughout.
Performance:
385 Stroker shortblock, TFS aluminum heads, Procharger 15lb supercharger with 12 rib belt system with custom front mount 3-core intercooler, full Comp Cams roller valvetrain with custom cam, custom built fuel injection manifold, full length Hooker headers, custom 3" y-pipe to 4" single system with Flowmaster muffler, Accel DFI, Holley Pro ignition, MSD wires, March pulley system, aluminum radiator, Paxton billet fuel pump, real carbon fiber accents, plus way too many other mods to list !
Suspension/Chassis:
Custom tubular control and panhard bars, custom built tubular adjustable torque arm with integrated driveshaft loops, lowering springs and poly bushings all around, Koni Yellow struts and shocks, slight mini tub, custom built double subframe connectors, Baer Track series brakes all around
Drivetrain:
T-56 6-speed with McLeod clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, Tilton hydraulic clutch pedal setup, chrome moly driveshaft, Ford 9" rear with 3.55 posi, 31 spline Strange axles
Electronics:
Alpine head unit, Alpine amps, Alpine 6x9, Rockford Fosgate subs, and front speakers, custom built fiberglass sub enclosure.
I've attached some of the latest pics

Re: My Camaro project
Is that intake ducting finished? Are you really going to have it sucking the hot, under hood air? If so, I guess the intercooler (looks you have one) will be needed.

Re: My Camaro project
With the filter just open, exposed, and sitting right by the valve cover, there's going to very little, if any, cold air coming in.
Nice car, just needs a couple of finishing touches, for performance. For show, I'd say it is done.

Bout time I got to see more than just sneeky pics of that sexy intake!!! The cars looks great, and the color scheme and wheels flows so well. I knew that this would be a great one when you posted the pic of the intake, but it is really over the top! Good job!

Steve,
Very nice car, you have done a LOT of work to that one! Super sharp, subtle, yet bold. Love the stripes!
Motor looks good, any numbers yet?

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Yes, I realize that the filter isn't located in the best of locations, but unfortunately there are compromises in locating it. It's better than the as supplied setup that ATI provides with the kit. I had a Superram setup previously and do have a box that I made using a ZR1 K&N filter that sealed to the underside of the cowl hood, but had to give that up when I went to the taller intake that I made thats on the car now. I made the new tube using some 4" mandrel bent tubing, welded it together and then had it ceramic coated.
No, the car wasn't at Woodward, I haven't shown it anywhere as of yet.
The emblems are a combination of items from the new Trailblazer and Cobalt SS.
I had the car on a Dynojet quite a few years ago when I first installed the Procharger, but have upgraded the entire headers, exhaust, fuel system, roller rockers, and fuel injection, throttle body since then. It made about 420 hp at the wheels then, so I'm expecting some better numbers now

Beautiful Camaro... The Wheel combo with the Paint.. Looks SEXY as hell!
Re: My Camaro project
perfect example of how a long, drawn out project can turn out to be one of the nicest cars ever. with budget/quick builds, lots of short cuts are taken. you car shows no sign of short cuts. I really like that you kept the dash 3rd gen, and i like the gauges. excellent work, thanks for sharing!

Re: My Camaro project
hey where did you get the radiator support cover? make it yourself?
Re: My Camaro project
Thanks again guys !
The gas door cover is actually off a Bullit Mustang. I put a slight curve into it to match up the the Camaro body better. The rad cover is a custom piece that I made out of aluminum, punched some holes into it with a punch / flare tool that I purchased and then had the cover powder coated. The other gauge pod on the passenger side is actually two ABS dual gauge pods for a Hummer that I flipped upside down and modified to fit.

I winder if it could be extended rearwards a few more inches to the firwall, then a filter mounted in between the windshield wiper posts? Then, it could be getting colder outside air, at least.

Job well done. I love seeing radical make overs like this. I didn't do anything as extreme on the interior but I will say wow...I'm a little envious
I'm VERY interested to see what that fuel rail / upper intake setup is like. Is that simply a carbon fiber lid for a super-ram??

man, your car is incredible. a lot of crazy builds coming out of ontario lately. my hat is off to you
Re: My Camaro project
If you look closer, there is absolutely NO room in there with the wiper motor, wiper transmission so that idea is out the door too. Trust me, I've considered every option already, but as I said earlier, compromises in location.
