New Pics Of My Low Mile '87 Iroc-Z
I'm getting ready to install the Spohn Swaybars so I put it on stands. While I was under there I figured I'd take a few pics of the undercarriage and some different angles...
This car is amazingly clean...
I can't wait to replace those rusty swaybars with the black powdercoated Spohn units. I'll also be putting on the black rear lower control arms. I also got the black subframe connectors, but I'm now having doubts if I should install them since they are weld on and pretty much irreversible...

I happened to notice one of the throttle cables is missing. Is this a necessary item or is it just one of those safety throttle return cables that is not needed? I'm wondering why it's not there...

Thanks, I guess that's why I don't have the cable...No cruise control...
I keep reading horror stories about people's interior catching on fire and it's scaring me...
I'll probably just do it since I already bought them, it's just going to be hard to see this perfectly stock car being put under the torch...

Car looks extremely clean. It has been very well maintained after all these years. Install the SFC and never look back. If youre scared about the carpet, just unscrew the door sill panels and move it out of the way. Keep us posted!

Re: New Pics Of My Low Mile '87 Iroc-Z
Will do. All my parts are due to arrive tomorrow. I soaked all the bolts with WD40 and plan to put the sways, and lca's on right away. I have 2 potential places who specialize in race car fabrication who said they would do the SFC's and they both said it's an easy job and they've done many before. I'm sure once I voice my concerns to them they will advise me on the best plan of attack. I will definitely tell them to lift up the carpet...Thanks

It was senior citizen owned and apparently he only used it to drive himself to the golf course over the years...

No.
It's WD40 I sprayed on there. I'm thinking about changing to heavy duty u joints and I sprayed a bit on there to ease removal...

A goody from Summit came in today. It's the Edelbrock TPI STB. I also made a Chevy decal out of some white vinyl I had and put that on the intake along with the Spohn sticker...
The STB was a pretty straight forward install aside from the fact that the 4 bolts for the strut tower were not in the package. I had some stainless 3/8-16 X 1" one's so I used those instead...

Re: New Pics Of My Low Mile '87 Iroc-Z
Ok last pics, I swear...
I did not like how muddy the stock speakers sounded with the new (used) Delco Monsoon deck. I upgraded the front and rears with Pioneer 4x6's and 6x9's. Taking the dash pad off was much easier than I expected. I had to take out the speaker mounts to drill new holes for the 4X6's. Supposedly these were made to fit GM cars, just not this GM car. No biggie. The rears fit like a glove with zero issues. Now I can pretty much crank it full blast and it does not distort...
I know my intentions were to keep the car stock, but it still looks 100% stock from the outside and now handles and sounds much better!!!

Re: New Pics Of My Low Mile '87 Iroc-Z
When you get your SFC's installed, I would highly recommend REMOVING your carpet. We lifted mine and it still caught fire. After taking out the carpet I'm surprised it didn't catch fire elsewhere. I've found all sorts of sears and burns where we were welding.
Oh, and removing the carpet IS NOT EASY. The center console needs to go. All of it. And that's a lot of center console. Door sill panels, kick panels, the seat belt plastics can stay in, all of the seats need to come out. You find a lot of stuff you'd never think about. I found at least seven screws. Two of which I can spot where they came from. Oh! And I found my build sheet! *happydance*
