Looks like you had some fun. I am guessing the tach doesn't work? I was flipping out thinking, "why hasn't he shifted yet?!" then saw the automatic style brake pedal. Once the tach stayed at 7,000 I figured something was wrong with it since the engine was still alive lol.
I never got mine over 115. It just didn't seem to have anything left. I blame it on a crappy timing chain and uphill grade. I was disappointed with that being my top end limit, but at 115, you do go by those trucks doing 55 pretty darn fast. Hopefully soon it will be round 2 and the new timing chin, cap and rotor, plugs, plug wires, and MSD 6A will get me to 135 or more

I believe GM rated these cars at 145 MPH top speed so I think with some mods you could do it easily, just make sure your tires will handle it. It took me almost a minute to hit 115, but I was on a hill. I think 120 in 28 seconds is pretty good.Originally Posted by alpine247

I know where you are coming from since it is reckless to drive over 100 on roads. I don't have a problem with it if you are the only one around on a freeway or something because you are only risking your life and not countless others. The only time I did over 100 was at 2am on I-90 with no cars in sight (until I came up on a truck quickly and slowed down). You definitely have to use some common sense if you are going to speed that much and don't try it in traffic.Originally Posted by gcgarner

looked more like 55 to 120.
I got mine to 143 right after I got my 6 speed put in and still had my 3.08 gears. It was in the top end of 5th gear too.

I wonder what your mom and dad would be thinking if they read this thread right now.
Sure sometimes we all can drive a little fast i wouldn't be proud enough to be showing or talking about it on a public forum though.
When your trapping 120 in the 1/4 in under 12 seconds then its something to be proud of.

I don't feel safe going that fast on the hwy, something bad is bound to happen, it's just not safe.
I'd rather have the very quick acceleration to 70, it's more fun and less dangerous......

Blown tire at 120+ is not a good thing. Z rated tires?
To the OP... why don't you just drop off your car at the junk yard and save us the story about how you messed up the car in an accident.

dude please stop seriously, if you would have gotten caught you can kiss everything goodbye. listen to someone who has there license suspended all summer for driving like an idiot.
an open track day is a great place to open it up......I take my 87 to watkins glen about once or twice a year.........for $275 you can run the pee out of your car and not worry about harming anybody........i can get my car up to 120 to 130 every lap on the back striaghts........i also get video ....except i'm not holding the camera, it's mounted to the roll bar............I'm sure there are tracks near most everybody where this is available.

Even though I'm 15 Ive been in a situation with my older brother driving where he totaled a '91 Rs with 25k miles convertible with me in it. He was going around 100mph and lost it around 75 and controled it till he spun out into a tree. I'm not saying what he did was right b/c it wasn't nor am I trying to put you down in any way. I'm here to say 4.50$ a gallon is way cheaper by driving to the track, other then totaling a car or hurting someone else on streets.
yeah it like im not doing 120+ everyday, but once in a while i find a road i know and just let it scream.the closest track to me is an hr and a half away i think. thats pretty far lol, that like a tank and probably a half to get there lol

wasnt that dangerous (well if u live on that road 18yrs) and u know it very well and only see maybe 30 cars go by all day lol i mean its basically a dragstrip lol.u dont know how many night i stand on my porch watching lil rice burners with there loud *** fart cans drag racing.but on the other part anything can happen tire blows out, ball joint breaks, tie rod, drive shaft pretty much at that speed.u mine as well put ur head down and kiss ur *** good bye lolOriginally Posted by lordmetalz28

im not bashing anyone but what motor are you running if your goal is 140 and one of you said you topped out at 115? i have a stock 350 with the original 305's intake and q jet carb, car is practically stock all through except for motor swap. I had a friend follow me an i had to shut it down at 145 cuz of a high po sittin in the median Im sure i was very close to top end if not there (i dont have a tach to know my limit so i just listen to the motor and the friend was because i have the 85 mph double pointer gauges) but even so I'm not bashing but thats before i change my intake and carb and do other mods so i excpect 150+ without even doing internal mods or chargers. so i just wanna know what motors?

One of these days, I need to get the WOT 3-4 shift working. As it is now, 100% stock LB9's have higher top speeds than I do.

I am the one that topped at 115. I have a stock 305 that the previous owner swapped into my car. The timing chain was in really bad shape, the tranny had some issues, and there was a hot chip for a 350 in the ECM. I am pretty sure that the combination of all that killed my motors ability to do anything semi descent.Originally Posted by 84 maro

Yes, that picture was taken at the end of 3rd gear. The car shifts into 4th when driving normal. But won't shift into 4th when I'm more than 2/3rd throttle. It's a common thing among 3rd gens.
So if you're at 115 mph cruising in O/D and you press the gas a bit more, it will downshift to 3rd. If you're pedal to the metal in 3rd, it will stay in 3rd until you let off the gas. Either way, what you see in the picture is as fast as the car will go.
I had it up to 200 kmh one time, but I was at about 5700 RPM. Well into the red. I let off at that point and began to find out what was up. Turns out, the car was supposed to be like that. Apparently the 1988-mid 1991 700R4's wouldn't make the shift to 4th at full throttle.
EDIT: LOL about the speedometer. I find the US speedometer looks strange. There's so much room on it.

I never got mine over 115. It just didn't seem to have anything left. I blame it on a crappy timing chain and uphill grade. I was disappointed with that being my top end limit, but at 115, you do go by those trucks doing 55 pretty darn fast. Hopefully soon it will be round 2 and the new timing chin, cap and rotor, plugs, plug wires, and MSD 6A will get me to 135 or more
Racing has never been of interest to me and as for speed, I just want her to statisfy myself and my stock Camaro satisfies me plenty. When she was around 6 months old, I opened her up one mid morning on Hwy 267 south of T'hassee and had her quickly up to +/- 140. That was enough for me - I've probably had her to 100 twice since then.Originally Posted by Titan85

I mean there is lots of space between the numbers on the US mph gauges. I don't have a yellow line on 55 mph either.
Zepher, that mph only speedo is just odd. How'd you get one without kmh?
You have a different gas gauge than I do too. Mine doesn't say "Unleaded fuel only." It has an empty circle for empty and a full circle for full.
You can just barely see it in this photo.

This is probably different for you guys too.

I didn't even realize that there was no km/h on the speedo for about a week, I just knew it looked strange, then I realized it.
