1987 iroc, 5.7, stock
Brand new to me (well, three weeks ago, at least).
Purchased from Craig's List for $4000.00. I spent just under 1100.00 on some minor repairs, belts, hoses, filters (all), oil change (Mobile 1 full synthetic now). Plugs, wires, distributor all replaced. Transmission pan was leaking, replaced, sealed and fresh transmission oil.
Came with a new alternator and battery.
Minor list of problems. Power antenna..isn't. Auto-rearview dimmer ...doesn't. Fog lights, no. Tape player, ejects instantly.
The Good:
AC works. Stereo is original and all speakers work, no buzzing, no popping. Heater, yup! Interior is in great shape. T-Tops do not appear to leak, but previous owner reported some water spots in the seats. I took it to a local car wash and could not see any evidence of leaking.
Transmission shifts well, and the motor is solid. No history of any previous oil leaks. 76K on the ODOD when I purchased it, I have put about 1500 miles on her since then.
Power windows, power locks, all function. They were a little slow when I bought the car, but after a a few weeks of use, they are both working much better. Power hatch lid works, but occassionally it will release and raise, then immediately relower the rear hatch. Haven't figured out that gremlin yet, but at this point, it is just a character flaw. I figure it will just take some time to play the game, then behave itself.
Pics, of course. They are native, and LARGE so you sould be able to see plenty of details. Even where I should have polished a little more with the wax.
I used Dri Wash and Wax on it, I have had good luck in the past with the product, but was a little rushed that day. Has a UV protection to it that really helps prevent sunfade.

Boyd Coddinton rims and Khumo tires. 245/55s. I am not happy with the combination and plan to sell the rims and replace them with factory rims.
The rims looks sharp, but if I am going to keep this a factory original, then the rims need to match the model and year. Interested in trades, so let me know if you want these rims. Maybe we can work something out.

Other than a trip to the local junk yards ... any advice on finding a set of factory rims? I'm not opposed to junk yard shopping. I plan to stop in to one next week to look for a cassette unit that I can salvage.
I am just cautious about buying 20+ yr old rims.

Re: 1987 iroc, 5.7, stock
Thank you. It needs a better waxing, wheels could use some polish and it is time to vacuum the interior again (pebbled driveway).
I never really planned to own a Z28. My DD is a 1997 740iL BMW.
It is what it is. Not exactly fast, not exactly slow. But, it gets alot of compliments wherever I take it.
BTW, any of you guys know how to fix the autodim on the rearview?
And from another thread, someone mentioned the rarity of a map light?
Mine has the map light, the cig(?) holder and some weird set of guages on the T-Top area. You can set the wheels on the guages for 'recreation' business, Medical, and it looks like a counter of some sort. info?
I'm clueless on what it was supposed to do with that set of counters.

The issue with rear hatch closing is the rear hatch struts are worn. The hatch closes when the contacts are engaged. If the struts can't lift the hatch any, it will make immediate contact and close again.
The rear view mirror issue is the motor. I replaced the motor in my mirror years ago due to the same issue. I found another mirror that worked, but was a different style. I stole the motor and belt from the newer style system and put it in mine. Has worked for over 5 years now.

The little dials/counters etc. etc. on the roof console are just basic 80's fluff, but....they are a little uncommon. Not really worth anything, but you get cool points.
NICE!!!!!! Irocs deserve factory rims!
