Why does every 3rd gen camaro owner lie about their milage?

Im looking to buy a 86ish camaro and ive looked at hundreds upon hundreds of ads in the past few weeks.. its astonishing how many people say their car "only has 56k or 80K" like we were born yesterday....its like 5/10 ads say they have under 100k miles. thats so ridiculously impossible. Id bet about 5% of Irocs/z28 3rd gens really have under 100k. anyways.... /endrant.

Until you lays your eyes on the car, don't call the owners liars.

Besides...There are still a lot of low mileage 3rd gen out there. Lowest I know of is FOUR ORIGINAL MILES.

I dont really see how its a lie...most thirdgen Odometers didnt really account for mileage above 100k so once it hits 100k it starts over. Also rebuilt engines etc

And even then..ud be amazed at how many are really below 100k. I just bought mine with a verified 94k Original miles

Re: Why does every 3rd gen camaro owner lie about their milage?

when i bought my bird, it had 93k on it....but i did once take a look at an LS camaro (the guy put Z28 GFX on it) and said that it had 110k miles, but his odometer said 105k, so something seemed a bit wrong, not to mention that the car needed wayyyyy more work than my bird did. at the time i was upset that i couldnt get the car i wanted, but now im real happy i got my bird lol

wait, so youre saying because the Odometer turns over its not a lie? thats the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. and to respond to the other guys post... of course theres always the exception...theres just an alarmingly high amount of fibbers, or people that dont know how much actual mileage is on their camaros.

Re: Why does every 3rd gen camaro owner lie about their milage?

why so impossible, u figure most 3rd gens are not daily drivers, many sit for extensive periods while being upgraded and waiting for funds to complete a certain upgrade. i've owned my 88 iroc since 02 and i doubt i've put more then 20k miles in 7 years, my 91 rs i bought 6 months ago has been hardly driven 500 miles, in fact its sat for the last 2 weeks waiting for parts for my ls1 brake upgrade. most people like myself dont have 3rd gens as daily drivers there more or a hobby weekend car that get driven very few miles a year.

Re: Why does every 3rd gen camaro owner lie about their milage?

my 85 IROC Z28 just turned over 29,000 verified miles... give or take, the speedometer cable was broke for about two months of in town driving. 4th owner, first 3 were all family members of each other, i'm the first out of family owner. Dad bought, passed down to kid, kid sold to uncle, uncle tore down and started to build for strip... now its got roughly 29,000 miles on the "frame" 4,500 on the motor, about 4,000 on the tranny, and about 3,500 on the locked rearend... so you might want to watch what you are saying about liars, if i put my car up for sale and you called me a liar.... ouch... that would be a mistake... besides, a lot of these cars don't look so "30,000 mile great" anymore because of their mileage. they have been left to sit outside in the weather or some 17 yr old kid got ahold of it, painted the interior parts like it was a honda and ran the pi$$ out of the poor thing....

Maybe im coming off a little harsh, but as I browse through alot of these ads i just cant but help and think that these are all 25 y/o cars and half of them seem to have under 100k, maybe im comparing them to my little honda too much.

like I said, theres always the exception.. and if you explained that in your ad if you were selling your car Id obviously except that. go browse your craigslist and see how many of these situations you just explained to me you find on there....not many.

Oh, and try to work on not being such an internet tough guy.. I think im asking a very good question here.

Re: Why does every 3rd gen camaro owner lie about their milage?

internet tough guy, no... making a point, yes. anybody with a decent 3rd gen will get touchy when it comes to these cars.. they are falling off the roads left and right, so to have one and to have a good one is becoming harder to find... like you said, you're comparing to your honda... these aint honda's..... these no where even compare to honda's.... thats why it sounded that way. i'm not a tough guy even in person, i have arguments and crap like that... however; I will stand up for my car in my driveway in a heartbeat!

don't take it so serious though, its just a forum, and if it hurt your feelings, sorry, but like you said, you shouldn't have posted "every"....

have a good night

p.s. oh yeah, LOL there is no way on gods green earth that I would have ever posted ALL of that in a newspaper add like you said you were looking through, now craigs list, well heck, it would have been a lot longer than that for what was done to that car.. LOL just thought I would clarify that part
