Last pics before winter hibernation...

I still see plenty of pony cars driving around, but I figured it's already time for mine to be winterized. It's just far too rainy and wet here in Quebec.

Sadly, I don't have a proper garage, and I would never leave my baby with complete strangers in a rented one.
So I've built a nice big garage tent at my father-in-law's house in the mountains. Lovely place and no salt anywhere near. She'll spend the winter there together with her older sister, a white 81 convertible.

Took out the battery, winterized all fluids, overpressured the tires, and sprayed everything with a heavy coat of rustproofing. I'll visit again just before snowfall and grease up some more stuff, and treat all wiring, connectors, and hoses that I can reach.

Well, it's the best I can do...

Anyway, here are the last pictures taken this year:

I don't know how bad your mouse problem is in Quebec. My brother-in-law swears that sprinkling Comet (the household cleaner) around the tires keeps the mice out of his stored vehicles.

Just something to think about. Or worry about...

Nice cars!

I had an 86 Z28 the same color as that, I miss it

That's a whole lot better than leaving the car out in the elements for sure. I second the watch out for rodents possibility. That would make a fine winter home for a chipmunk that sneaks in before the heavy snow.

Put a box of baking soda inside the car to keep mildew from starting and keep that musty smell away. Mothballs will repel some pests but don't put them in the car. Engine compartment, exhaust pipes, near the wheels ect. will be fine. Also, don't set the parking brake! (like I did once, lol)

Great looking cars.

This is the time of year that I'm glad I live in Texas. We drive them year round.

Re: Last pics before winter hibernation...

Thanks for the heads-up about rodents!

Yeah, they might be a problem there. I can sometimes hear them inside the walls at ground floor there, and there's a chipmunk living in the backyard. Heck, with even deer grazing in the front yard sometimes, smaller animals are sure to be around, as well.

I'll be there again at the end of the month, I'll do my best about rodent-proofing I have a whole lot of humidity absorbers left from my old apartment, I guess I'll use those, too.

Thanks for all the advice and the kind words

Nice to see someone else from quebec! very clean car you got there. I would highly suggest putting a large plywood sheat under your cars because it is sitting directly on grass.

Re: Last pics before winter hibernation...

It's dirt rather than grass... We've dug the grass out.

I'll see what it looks like at the end of the month, if it's dry and all. no new grass should grow there until winter and once the soil is frozen, it will be no difference anyway.

Not much I can do there, really...

Thanks!

The white car is a 1981 dealer-level conversion. It belongs to my wife's twin sister

Re: Last pics before winter hibernation...

How do you like those auto storage things. I currently have mine in a storage unit, but its wicked expensive, and im thinking of getting one of those.

How does it hold up to the elements? Does the car stay pretty dry?

I second the point you want to get her off that ground. The moisture is not going to be friendly.

There's nowhere else I can put her! It's not like I have a choice... The only other option is to park her behind the building here in Montreal, with NO tent, to be covered by snow, salt, and smashed up by reckless plough drivers

Re: Last pics before winter hibernation...

*sigh* this is always the worst time of the year for us Northern sports car drivers lol.

I'm home from college for the weekend and actually taking my bird out a couple more times before the winter and I'll pack it away in the garage tomorrow afternoon or Sunday morning probably. It's depressing knowing that soon I won't be able to drive her until like April again

Put her on some blocks or make a quick wood deck.

Re: Last pics before winter hibernation...

For the rodent problem a nice alternative to moth ***** is putting dryer sheets in various places in the car and in the engine bay. They smell 10x better than moth *****, but do the same job of keeping critters away. Very nice car!
