I'm currious about an interior part. Did you swap out your seatbelt clip? When I got mine it had the bolt but no buckle. I would be willing to buy it from you, hit me up on what you think.

first quote was $596.89, end of today it was $536.60 and like i said they did ALOT of extra work that i didnt expect, i think i saw 3 small dents they didnt pull 2 were around the fender lip and one was near the hatch glass so its fine, they even repaired the front bumber where it was pushed it, looks brand spankin new

i thank my grandfather for that everyday, if it wasnt for him this car would have been sold into peices or been junked and without his knowledge or funding( his excuse was i always did work for him and my grandmother so i deserved it even though he gave me $40 a month for mowing) this car wouldnt be around me or where i am today, next week almost 90% of the biggest work will be done EI the windsheild and headliner so she will be done soon, im gonna get the window tint about xmas i think as its not needed right now.

next step for the car paint wise is im gonna pull the wiper arms, antenna, both front and back license plate bolts, and the door handles and spray them black, car will look super clean then, might also have that little strip on the back bumber repainted black by them, idk, suggestions?

well currently im waiting on denny from tgr to get ahold of me cause i have a small parts list that i need, i need a gauge cluster lens, passengerside turn signal lens, driver side window sweep, another center cap, and a rear view mirror, so while im waiting on that i got my new wheels one, besides the one thats popped so untill next week i have one of my old wheels on till i get the tire swapped, tell me what you think, if you like them you can thank mark for it, he talked me into getting another set.

yeah they're alittle dirty, just set up my appointments for my headliner and windsheild, tuesdays windsheild, weds headliner, hopping i can get a used windowsweep so i dont have to buy a $40 new one, i cant wash the car for 3 to 4 weeks so thats why im not worried about cleaning the rims right now.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

I would go ahead and use the 4th gen window sweeps if I were you, you just have to cut them down a bit. They're cheap and they last a long time.

And yeah, you might send me that address. Me and dad just got my Camaro running today. I bought brand new tires, calipers, brake pads, a temp sensor, a carb, and an intake for it. Now it just needs some paint!

I don't have them yet, but you just take them off the 4th gen and cut them to fit. I'll see if I can't find the thread real quick.

Well this wasn't exactly what I saw but its even better!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

86 sports coupe... 2.8, automatic tranny...does the AC work?

as one 2.8 owner to another, I'd tell you, but you probably wouldn't be too happy with me.

I say just enjoy it, and try not to worry about what it's worth on the market. If I let myself get obsessed about that, it would keep me from putting any money into it at all

remember, value is based on demand. How many people do you see actively shopping for a 2.8 car with a auto tranny? those cars usually sell dirt cheap because they are beat up, used up, and somebody wants a project. For that, these cars are GOLD

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

since you only paid $250, I can tell you you multiplied its value by many times... If I was shopping a car like that and saw yours listed for 1500, it would interest me enough to go look at it.
$2000, maybe not.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

maybe someday... but that day isn't today...

if you thought about trying to get the AC working, you would at minimum have to replace every o ring in the system, it's horrible for them to be in open air, they will dry out. after you do that, you'll probably need a new compressor, doubtful the old one survived sitting up without lubrication, I wouldn't trust it at ALL.. you'll also need a new dryer, that always goes with a new compressor

after that, flush the system, pressure test it, and charge it, see what happens

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

round 300 for a reman. plus figure at least 100 to have it charged. the main problem is getting to the evaporator... that's a REAL pain. if you think you can get it out, then changing the orings shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure there's a thread here that talks about how to do it

Which isn't really a lot of money to have AC. I wish I hadn't scrapped my 2.8 bird with working AC, I'd just give it all to you.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

if it's r12, you're good to go... just make sure you don't have ANY leaks before you charge the system. I would hate for you to lose any of the r12... it's not made anymore, and it's incredibly EXPENSIVE if you need to buy it

the evap is downwind of the blower motor, in that large plastic hump that sticks out of the firewall on the passenger side of the car

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

the chances of the o rings not being dried out and brittle are slim to none. I wouldn't chance it. if the system leaks, you lose all your freon.

talk to an AC guy... since you have a good supply of freon, you COULD put oil into the system as you charge it, and if it leaks (and you don't burn up your brand new compressor, you could them go in and change the o rings if it leaks.

but there's really not an excuse for changing out every other o ring including your condensor (the radiator like thing in front of your actual radiator)

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

my grandpa went to this shop since they opened, he was the first customer actually so he became great friends with the owner, his son and the entire work force, for the funeral the shop closed down completely and everyone was there for the entire time.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

got all my new rims on now, got my window sweeps ordered and in the mail, thank you 1aauto, getting my windsheild next tuesday, so all that leaves is the headliner and window tint besides the small stuff, like i said a new turn signal lens, center cap, and gauge lens, iv found both my center cap and gauge lens for $15 each, so all i really need is that new turn signal lens!! wish denny would get ahold of me

You are really reviving this car man... Good work. The little stuff adds up, and I like how you have a good plan for her.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

yeah, im getting an 88 with a 350 lt1 with upgraded suspention and i built the moter so thats my play toy, the 86 is my baby though so i wanna bring her back to good shape, not bad for a $250 car when i first got her but your right the little stuff adds up, thankfully its a small list, i really need to add new hatch moter guides to that list but im ordering that when i get both of my wonder bars from TDS, iv only got 2 things i wanna do under the hood of this car, i need to replace all the vacum lines, its not needed but i have a few leaks so my idles alittle off and i need to retard the timing alittle, shes alittle rough around the engine bay area still but shes steady and will take me anywhere, im also gonna get some chrome valve covers for my 2.8

Yay! I made a thread that's actually useful! Sorry, but that kind of got me excited, lol.

I saw he was looking for sweeps and was going to post a link, but you beat me to it.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

I'd pay $300 for it even if it had some rust.

If I had the room and found what you found for $300, I'd buy it if it was in decent enough shape today.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure how what I said originally was seemingly disrespecting your car. I was just replying to your thread asking if $300 is a good deal for this car. Good luck.

I think he saw what I saw haha. It looked like you were saying you would offer $300 for it now as it sits.
