Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
could but i like my v6, better gas mileage and keeps me outta trouble for awhile. i painted the dizzy aswell, not overspray
Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Don't assume v8s get bad gas mileage just because their v8s. After some tuning my 86 z got a little over 30 mpg highway.
Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

Don't get too discouraged, you may have to wait a little while but it'll be worth it. You could always learn and do it yourself. The only thing I would have a problem with are the pushrods and since those are already done it should be simple stuff.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well, slow day today. started out i went down and put the coil and everything on, then i got board so i started cleaning my engine bay. got the kmember clean and my driver side strut tower, and where the charcoal canister use to sit since it was filthy, cant believe the k members are silver and not painted, that suprised me. well i went out to eat with the familythen when i got home i tackled the engine...well short story short.... THE ENGINES IN!!!! god that took forever though!! went in from the side but as we got it lowered i got the top 2 tranny bolts in but i was FAR off the engine mounts....after a few minutes i figured out why, the transmission was pulled forward off the brace, when i went to take the engine out i didnt pay attention and forgot 1 tranny bolt so when i was pulling and everthing i pulled the tranny forward thus pulling my driveshaft almost all the way out which is why my tranny was leaking, after i got the engine and tranny pushed back everything settled in but i dented my oil filter and its leaking. i got almost all the wiring hooked up besides the 3 grounds that go on the back of the driver side head and iv gotta tighten up the acc stuff, i cant figure out how they mate. iv got the timing set, iv gotta pull the intake though so i can pull the valve covers and run the valves so thats gotta take awhile but all thats left is the acc, grounds, tightening the flywheels to spec, bellhousing, tranny bolts, exhaust bolts, and putting the driveshaft back in since i popped out wiggling the tranny and putting the fluids in then i should be able to have her done. should be done tomorrow

It looks so close yet so far! I got mine running today, I bought a built 700R4 a buddy of mine had. He wanted $500 but he was broke and I offered him 200 and he took it. We had the old trans out and the new one in in about 2 hours.
Hopefully you get yours back together soon so you can enjoy the weather we're currently blessed with lol

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
ha your funny.... sorry im in a pissy mood tonight, got the bell housing all bolted up and started getting the torque converter bolted up and we cant get it into the crankshaft, the s10 was a manual so we both thought a bushing was in the crankshaft....guess what, no bushings that we can see or feel, so i dropped the tranny in mine too, mine only took 30 minutes to drop though, would have been quicker but the dipstick was fun.... i need input

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
had to grind down the converter to get it in, but its all in, i got the tranny in, bellhousing bolted up, TC bolted up, driveshaft in and bolted up, torque arm bolted in, i gotta take my tranny crossmember again though so i can replace the mount. so i got the car off all 4 jack stands and its only on two now, i need to get exhaust bolted up, starter, and the inspection plate on then its going back on the ground.
, i replaced my taillights since both of mine were scratched badly or cracked and broken. had one extra off my 90 that was good so i put that in the passenger and ended up scratching the paint on the spoiler and bumber
, i got the driver side off my dads uncles son. he just got a 90 RS and it came with a spare driver side but it had the black outs on it at one time and someone glued he velcro on them so now i need to get the old dried up glue off. ITS BEING A PITA!!!!! iv been using oops and it got the sticky stuff off but i need to get the hard stuff off, any suggestions? the car will be done tomorrow. iv got the pullys and everything on, i need to put the grounds on the back of the driver side head and take the valve covers off then i can set my valve lash and reinstall. first is first. im gonna fill her up then shes getting a long needed bath!! then its crusing time boys and girls!!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
she runs. adjusted timing today and she runs, but i gotta re adjust 2 valves because they are ticking and i gotta seal my driver side since its not sealing. bucause it poppt other than that shes done. oh and i gotta redo my cable shift. we were checking the idle today and as soon as i came out of park and into reverse i could tell something was wrong, same as when i went into drive. when i put it back in park it started rolling backwards because it popped out of the bracket. then i need to recheck my vacum lines and put the hood on and call it a day.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well the cars running alittle better. i remembed i tore the lower plenum gasket so i replaced that and now shes idleing better but after she gets warm and the idle drops shes idleing WAY to low, still around 550 and it dies if it fluctuates any so im still lost, i dont know if its timing or spark plugs or what but its still shaking badly.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
if its shaking its either timing or a balance issue with the motor.
when you swapped in the new motor, did you use the flexplate and harmonic balancer that came with it?

the car was a manual so im using my flexplate for my automatic, and im using the old blancer off my old engine so i could keep the v belts, i changed the timing chain covers so no worries there.
