Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
big update, i got my new turn signal and got it installed BIG improvment over that old cracked and dirty light but now my driver side looks dull so its time for a new driver side!! lol i decided to get my alternator rebuilt but im having it re wound to 130 amp for my audio stuff but back on topic. after i got that light installed i started eyeballing the front of the car and wondered what it would look like without my front plate holder on there. well i took it off and i LOVE the look!! it looks more aggresive but after i took it off i noticed dull paint, maaco didnt pull the plate off when they sprayed it!!! well i still had my spray can of touch up paint so i sprayed it and now i just need to wax it to get that glossy look back into it but it looks alot better i must say but now for the BIG update with alittle history again
when we moved into my house 2 years ago we noticed a second garage next to our house on just an empty lot, well after talking to the people around me i was told that there use to be a house there but it was torn down because it was too close to the other houses, mine and the lady next door to me, well the garage stayed and has been sitting empty since the house was torn down. well fast forward. i got tired of seeing it and so did my step dad so we went up to our court house and got the name of the guy that owned it and called him and we are going to buy it from him. currently in the garage we have on out property my step dad has is shop in it. all his tools, woodworking things, automotive stuff, gun shop, ect well since were getting the new garage hes moving over there so my mom and i can park in the garage so my car will no longer have to suffer the long sun and cold winters!!!!!!!! im happy!!!!!!!!!!!! and i can also paint my car in there now instead of the cheap macco job!!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
got my alternator back today, BIG improvment, its clean!!
but its still turning over WAY to slow and doesnt really wanna start...
i installed it, went to go start, waaaaaa waaaa waaa, got out the battery charger and put it on start and waaa waaa VAROOM!!, so i went around the block, got home shut it off, started it a few minutes later, waaaa waaa VAROOM so i let it idle for a few minutes maybe about 5, killed it and waaaa waaaa waa wa nothing.... so i got the battery on quick charge right now and im still hoping my batterys just dead...
heres some pictures of my cleaned up original AC delco

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Car looks great... Awesome job! Take her for a long cruise with the new alt and recheck your battery. I thought I kept killing alternators and changed mine twice before I realized I had a loose connection at my amp gauge that would not let enough current flow back to the battery therefore causing it to die intermittently. So if she still doesn't charge or hold a charge check for loose connections at the starter and other places with a lot of current going through em.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
its just strange, i got back in the car after it sat for a few hours and it was dark out and i noticed when i go to start the car the engine only turns over once and the dom light dims, i let go and sit for 1 second then go again, the engine turns over 2 times and fires. i let it run for a minute shut it off, go to start it again, again 1 rotation then nothing. i let it sit for another second, hit the key and again 2 rotations then it starts. WTF?!?!?

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
im gonna take it on a drive later, my positive battery cable was looser than a mother so i tighten it up and let the car idle for a few and its starting alot faster and alot quicker now so im hoping that was it.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well i gotta replace that battery anyways, i got my starter today, got it installed and the car starts AMAZING!!!!, took it for a drive down to my grandmas thats maybe 6 blocks away, i was idleing outside while my step dad went inside to talk to her and after a few minutes my radio turned off then turned back on after about half a second, i thought well....ok whatever. well about a minute after that my entire car just shut down on me, i went to restart it and nothin, tried it again and nothin, just happen to glace out my windsheild to my hood and i saw smoke just ROLLING out from under the hood, so i jumped out, popped the hood and just let the smoke roll out, well i got to looking and my negitive battery turn was just melted ALL over the battery tray and everything else. well i looked at my hot wire and it was against the manifold and it fried it.... so time for a new one :/

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well i replaced my heater hose line so now i dont have any leaks, just gotta get more coolent now so i can replace the water. next on my list is to replace my tie rod ends then get my window tint done, i still have some interior plastics to replace aswell and i need a repalcement centercap but shes coming together nicely. i cant decide if i wanna replace my tail lights with some iroc tails or not, if i dont im going to tint the ones on the car currently. i also washed the car today and cleaned all my windows. she still shines like no tomorrow and i kinda like the way the front end looks without the front plate.

well today im tinting my tail lights, my side markers and maybe my front parking lamps. im also changing the spark plugs. i havent done it in the 2 years iv had the car and idk when it was last done so i think its due lol. need to get either a spring or a 3/4 copper tubbing peice for my heater hose line to stop it from trying to callapse then im also gonna change from water to antifreeze again since winters on the way lol.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
You know running straight water is bad for your car, right? Antifreeze has anti-corrosion and lubrication additives in it that keeps your block from rusting up and your water pump from locking itself up.
As for the lights that should be pretty cool, be sure to post some pics when you're done!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
It's water mixed with antifreeze. Just more water than antifreeze. And the lights looks good, they are dark as hell!! I only put 1 coat on and wow!! I had an old light that was scratched so I used it to experiment on, I pained the black divider line inbetween my lights the same red as my car then blacked out the lights. I liked it but the red needed to be darker but the red didn't stick so when I taped it off the pulled it off it so that went out the door. What I did on the lights was I took mine, masked off the reverse lights so they will be normal, and masked off the black plastics and sprayed the red and orange. I haven't taken the tape off yet but they look good. I'm happy

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
drumroll please.......
this is just 1 coat lol. i did my mock up like i said with all the lights tinted and i couldnt see with my reverse lights on so i didnt tint those. im kinda fond of the look now myself. i tested them at night and i can see them with my lights on, and when i hit the brake i can see them perfectly, same as when i turn on my turn signals. i can see those great in the daylight too. i left my high top mount light alone so everyone can see that behind me. tell me what you think, i also found some pictures of my car from last sunday right after i did a full detail on it so ill post them up too.

I usually am not a fan of blacked out tails, but with the reverse lights kept like that, I actually think it looks great on your car!
