It's like a 10 hour drive for a dash pad..I can't really justify that lol. Plus I am absolutely paranoid when driving in large cities. You should see me in Indianapolis

Well if it makes you feel any better the pad aint going anywhere anytime soon. I have dealt with selling pads on Craigs before, never again and I don't feel like shipping another pad.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well i ordered some parts for my car this last week. i went to rockauto and bought all new inner and outer tie rod ends and monroe matic plus rear shocks. tomorrow im going to be installing those but i also went to autozone and bought some new door locks since my passenger side door lock has a key broken off in it so im gonna be replacing those too. also later this month after my birthday im going to be buying moneroe matic plus or sensa track struts, new moog rear springs and maybe front springs, trico flex blade wiper blades and possibly new balljoints, depends on how mine look. im also gonna be buying a wonderbar and new weather stripping for the hatch and doors. what do yall think? im gonna get my exhaust redone after all this just so i know i have enough money left after i buy whats needed.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well i got my tie rods and shocks done today. i had to go out to autzone to buy new adjusting sleeves because i couldnt get the old ones apart so i had to get new ones and now the steering feels better, it doesnt feel like it falls on its self doing a full lock turn and just feels like it drives and turns better. got my new locks installed and they feel firmer and i can unlock my passenger side door now. and my shocks well lets just say they were deader than well dead. my passenger was loose on the bottom and was barley hanging on and was shot and refused to budge, after it was out i could close and open it with one hand. the driver side was dead and was so rusty the outer cover litterally fell apart and off while taking it off. well lets just say the car sits better, rides better, and isnt as noisy

People tend to neglect the suspension, kind of out of sight out of mind. Once you update or upgrade you relize Holly Cow, is that how these cars are supposed to ride. Good luck with the project, I am doing my entire rear now so I get the rusty thing

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Why do you say that? Honestly Monroe has been around for a long time and making shocks for along time. They are good shocks for a daily driver which is what mine are. I have no need to go get kohnis or blistins for something that I'm never going to make out. The highest I will go is probably kybs and that will be after I'm older and have a job and my monroes die on me. I don't understand why people dog on monroe

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
We dog on them since the difference in just Daily Driving is amazing. If your roads down there in Indiana are as smooth as glass then you will be fine. If the roads are like the ones up here then Good Shocks/Struts are very noticeable. I went from Monroe's to KYB GR2 on my old 92 and noticed a nice difference. Went from KYB AGXs to Koni Yellows and noticed why people love Konis.
I say if you just need to replace them then go ahead. If not atleast go KYB.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
the roads up here are pretty smooth for the most part. my town goes through every spring and summer and repairs any damaged roads. my block and the surrounding 3 got all repaved. only a few bumps but with those new shocks on the rear i barley noticed them, old holes or bumbs that i used to cringe over every time i went over i didnt even really noticed, after i get those front struts done in the spring i believe i wont notice i thing. down the road when i have the money and these monroes die yes i will go kyb. but thats a way down the road still.

Are these for you current 86 SC? and are you paying a shop to put the exhaust in for you? Cause its not THAT hard to install.

Yep sure isn't. Also is this Dynomax's 2.5 system?
Hell for $150. Drive it up here and We will get it installed for you for free and the money saved you can put into some KYB's.

Yeah all the parts are for my 86. And the $150 for the exhaust is the pipping, muffler. Custom tail pipes, labor, and taxes.

well my plans changed alittle. insted of getting my exhaust done since theres nothing wrong with it right now im going to go ahead and get new strut mounts aswell as im pretty sure my driver is shot. after that i think im gonna go for subframe connectors. do you guys think SFCs are overkill for my v6? it will one day get a v8. more or less likely a 383 or ls3.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
No one wants to comment? Well small update. Re added all my prices up after removing the wonder bar and exhaust (my moms getting my wonder at for my birthday next week) and adding the strut mounts to the list it's like $330.99 for everything now. And the cars gonna have a play mate here soon. Iv had a truck bug hitting me for almost a year now, wind my dad got rid of his 2000 dodge ram 1500 and it's finally bitten me enough lol. I'm gonna get a 94-01 dodge ram 1500 for the winter months and play toy. So in the winter I'm gonna spoil the car like I am now with all new parts and new engine swap. But in the summer it won't get alot of money spent on it unless it's nessinsarry cause I'm gonna be spoiling the truck. So let's here some comments on the overkill on all the suspension parts right now or is it good measure since I'm doing a v8 swap on the camaro in the future

I live with my mom and some day hope to go to college, get an OK job and hopefully some day buy a house. I have an opportunity to buy an awesome sofa and chair. Sure I have no place to store it but owning a house sometime in the future is my plan so should I buy the furniture now despite not even being close to being able to afford a house today, tomorrow, next year etc?

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
SFCs on my car were a huge huge improvement. The car has much better footing around corners and especially at speed. I suspect even a lower powered/weight V6 would greatly benefit from the rigidity it adds to the entire car.

in reference to building suspension before engine I must say... I'm doing the same thing for my 88. I'm building a 400hp 383 for it and in KNOW i will want to drive it as soon as the engine is done so logic is to beef up my suspension first so it's good to go when i drop in my engine and dont twist it.

Keep in mind. If you get a strut tower brace for the tpi2.8 it wont fit with a carbed v8

Not going carbed. Going fuel injected lt1 or ls1. More power out of this engines and better mpg and look better in my opinion.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Well like I said it was coming soon lol. Was looking around at Craigslist at lt1s and got to talking to my buddy about them and he told me he would sell me his extra 350 2 bolt main lt1 for $150. The blocks stripped down but it comes with the intake, iron heads and crank. If I want the computer it's $200 but I think I'm going to skip on that for now and just look around for. Wireing harness and computer pair later on. It's going to be a few years before this get put in so I can use the current 2.8 I just put in and also let me work with it like I want. I want a different cam but I also want to bore the block and get heads and do some work with it before I drop it in. Do you guys think that it's a good price for the block and everything for $150?

talked to my buddy some more, the block is out of a caprice and the reason he didnt use it was when he pulled the intake there was a mice nest inside the intake and he messed up the cam trying to turn it using pipe wrench. for $150 i get the block stripped down, iron heads, intake, pan, crank if he can find it, and the motor mounts if he can find them. i dont get the injectors, harness, computer, pistons, cam, lifters ect. is it worth the $150?

If it's gonna be a few years I'd just wait. The price of Lt-1's have come down drastically in the last several years and they probably will drop more. Plus you'll need the harness and ECU for sure so you may as well wait. If you had a TPI V8 you could use an old SBC distributor and use some different injectors and run it that way but you don't.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Yes it's going to be several years. My dad doesn't want me to drop a v8 in till he thinks om ready and have the experience but getting it now will let me get started on it now. Think of it like I did with my car, I bought it early and gradually turned it into what I wanted so that by the time I had my license and was able to drive it was pretty much done. Like now all I have left is weatherstripping, struts and strut mounts, exhaust, then get that dent popped and I'm done with the car besides strengthing it for a v8 like subframe connectors, new LCAs and relocation brackets with a strut tower brace. Then I'm finished with th car period

well i decided to hold off on getting my lt but not for too long lol. i can get a complete lt1, wire harness, computer, transmission, and torque converter for $422.06 at my state's biggest pick a park so im going to go there, i also noticed that they sell any driveshaft for $17 so im gonna go ahead and grab myself an aluminum when i go.only other updates i can think of are i just ordered my roof rail weather stripping so thats out of the way. but i also added a new panhard bar and new LCAs to my list along with inner and out subframe connectors and new LCA relocation brackets. gotta stiffen up my car for that big v8 lol. i also need a strut tower brace.
