Spent $85 on it lol. Reason I didn't go with summit was they didn't carry my gasket kit and it would be about a week and a half after I ordered it for it to ship.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
nope the 3.4 in my moms 94 has already had its rebuild, and my 2.8 is long gone
my 305 the l69 in my z28 was never really used enough to have everything internally (rings) set up right and as a result my now 39k mile z28 smokes on startup and could use a valve job too, i figure what the hell might aswell go ***** deep if i'm goin in at all

i dont know from experience but i imagine that you'll need a whole new exhaust your stock one is just gonna be too small for your new engine to be able to "exhale" and your y pipe is alright for the 2.8 but the new engine is alot larger and so to are the exhaust manifolds you'd have leaking and it wouldn't run right

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
That is what I have heard. They don't look for flaws in what you have, they use tide and a scotch pad to rough up the paint, then shoot it. Problem I would be worried about now, is anything that they shot will be covered up. You might to go a little deaper into the original color to advoid further problems. You will have more attention to detail and probably will last alot longer and look alot better.

When I re paint it I'm taking it down to bare metal to fix any issues I find and to make it last like it should

last time I added up all the receipts, and I mean all the big receipts so not including all the smaller stuff or my new motor and trans and stereo system I had alittle over 7 grand into it. I'm thinking I'm near 10 grand with everything small added, my new motor and trans and system.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Well I didn't get any receipts but you can tell this has been rebuilt. Has a rebuild or install sticker on the front saying it voids the warranty if the tc is removed and the date on it is march 25 of 2003. He bought the car in 07 and pulled the motor and trans because he's putting a 400 in it and making it a drag car. But I also got an exhaust system off the same car for $10. Has the y pipe, cat, and half the intermediate pipe. here are some pictures of the tranny and exhaust.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
yeah, the guy i bought it off of didnt have the transmission rebuilt, had bought the car from someone in tennessee and drug it up here, the PO said that the motor and trans had been rebuilt so before he sold the motor off he cracked it open and it was spotless. so im thinking the trans should be the same, but the guy i bought it off of said that the car it came out of would scream and ball the tires all the way to 3rd, with a stock 350 tpi. so were thinking maybe the trans has a shiftkit and a stall. im going to leave it alone till i put it in the car. if i find that i dont like it enough then ill shove my shift kit into it. but i know i think i did very well on the exhaust. it was sitting outside near his truck when i spotted it, along with alot of other metal. he was going to the scrap yard after i left to scrap everything, including the exhaust so its a good thing i got there when i did. i figured i could sell the cat and get my money back easily. what do these cats normally sell for?

Well got my old exhaust flanges off the manifolds, need to cut my y pipe to get my flanges on then figure out how to remove the air pipe coming off the converter then have it all welded up. Got a small coat of paint on my trans today, painting it aluminum like my block is. Got them wrapped up for awhile till I get more money for parts. Trans is done besides paint and a new flexplate.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
posting some pics of the trans with alittle paint, will look better after i get more coats on it, i only had enough to do one side so this is an idea of what it will look like, keeping the converter blue i think since it wont be seen. and also posting a picture of them hybernating. not the best picture because i have my car backed way to far into the garage since im not use to the engine and trans being back there yet but you get the idea. i need to find a real early thirdgen so i can take the harness off of it for my new motor, because im still lost on what im going to do there, i want to be able to run ac and my heater, but have only the essesinal wires like for the alt, dizzy, battery, oil pressure unit, and the temp sensor ect. i also need to find one with a vacuum ran lockup for the torque converter so i can have my OD. if not ill just run without it and get a large oil cooler.

Got my oil filter adapter today and got it installed, I'm waiting on my friend to pay me tonight so I can order my radiator tomorrow and then I'll have that taken care of. Tonight I'm going to start gutting my cat and removing the air pipe from it, then adding the new flanges.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
The reason I needed the adapter was because my motor came with a factory oil cooler, I didn't want to re run that so I ripped it off and got a standard spin on oil filter adapter. A lot of people buy them new just because they're new but I just needed a used one to hold my filter and it was only $5 lol. But honestly the oil filter adapter is on all motors, some are just different. I went to the standard spin on style

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well small update, kinda. my radiator shipped today and will be here next wednesday if not sooner. got my cat emptied out of all its material so its now hollow. but im going to have to put my car under the knife sooner than later. sadly that maaco paint job is eating my car alive and at a very fast rate. was wiping some road dust off of her tonight after i washed her and got not noticing bubbling under the paint near the wheel wells. well as i kept looking, it kept looking worse. so after my motor goes in and the underbody and enginebay are all undercoated. im going to start to strip her down to metal. fix all the bad areas, then primer her up till i have the change to turn her red again. im afraid that if i wait any long im going to lose my car...

"damage being done" is being done slowly, biggest thing will be dont drive it this winter if the quarters are going bad, you can weld on new ones if you have too, but its a real pita, and i was talking more about taking days of sanding, shaping to get a perfect panel

found a set of camaro manifolds from the guy who i bought my exhuast and transmission from, he going to give them to me for $20. i recived my radiator today and alittle suprised by the condition, the box has this grainy sand like material in it, along with it in the radiator, the upper hose part was broken alittle bit, and it looks like and after market radiator and the hose conenctions look really small.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
havent done much with mine, got a 2 ton cherry picker friday, and have been spending all my time at my dads trying to get his 68 cougar ready. well friday we got it out of the garage, first time its moved under its own power since 04. well yesterday i went to a carshow with him where he put the 68 in and i decided to put my car in. got a few pictures. im the one who did all the work on the cougar to get it running but i used the knowledge from working on my camaro so its needed lol.
