Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

Well it was their rent a tool thing anyways. Hauled my heads into the shop today and got them all slapped together using the giant C clamp compressor and got them bolted to the block. I still need to torque them down.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

didnt get to get alot of work done yesterday, got my heads on but later that night my friend shot himself on accident and was lifelined to indy, and in the process, somehow the cops got word that my friend shot himself here so i had my entire towns police town here and they busted down 2 of my doors and ransacked my house while searching. they also busted down my garage door and promptly went through my entire garage. so in term i cant shut or lock my garage or my front door so i had to stay home today to keep an eye on the place while my parents are at work. so i got some work done today. i got my oil pan on, heads torqued, rocker arms on but need adjusted, and my valve cover and gaskets on. now all i need is to tighten down my timing chain sprockets, get my timing chain cover on and my shortblock is done.

Yeah he has 3 carbs. Eldabrock 650 on his 302, carter on his other 302, then an original 289 carb and manifold off his 68 cougar.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

well went to the yard and searched and searched for a v8 cluster and all i found was 85 mph clusters and everal 120-140 firebird ones.... i looked through atleast 15 cars. going to another yard next weekend that has more and hoping ill find one there. but i came acrossed a sexy 88 dark blue trans-am with a factory 350, t tops, aluminum drums, mint interior and a complete motor, only thing wrong with it was that the trans went out.... what a waste... ill post pics later as a memorial. but i found a v belt system off an 87 firebird 305. i wanted the 88s serpentine setup but i didnt have the right tools and the guys up front refused to pull any parts off of it, so i had to go with the 87... worries me because it doesnt have a hood.

your telling me, i love the blue, i wonder where the RPOs are on it to get the color code. and i didnt know about the extra, they just look nicer and are lighter but if they help stop then ill grab them faster lol. i hate to see that its there because of a bad transmission though, motor runs great, amazing body, interiors mint, all thats missing is a fender and a few bolts that i robbed off of it while trying to take the serpentine setup out. he sold the fender to someone.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

well the extra stopping force may not be noticeable there only rated higher as having a better stopping power to weight because theres more contact surface with the drums then the discs and the aluminum drums are lighter then the base drums so as to wether or not they'll actually stop you better idk but hey worth a shot

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

well here are my brackets, do these looks like all the brackets i need? i cant really tell since they are on their back so i need help. it looks like the only pulley the pulled are the crank pulley so i need to call them tomorrow to tell them i need the water pump, powersteering, and crank pulleys. unless i can use my v6 pulleys because im using my v6 accessories. but i know i atleast need the v8 crank pulley. anyways im getting excited and in the groove and am ready to start pulling the old motor now lol. im going to go tomorrow and get my paint from autozone for the engine bay, under hood, and wheel wells. autozone has their professional unercoating on sale so im going to go get some paint, a water pump, harmonic balancer, and my oil filter mount. im so ready to get this stuff in. im going to pick up some purple power too so i can degrease my brackets and pulleys and paint them black before i mount them to the motor. i can already hear the tires screaming, starting on my xmas break, im starting my project boys!!!!

That's a massive waste if it has a factory 350. I'm glad your '86 is getting a V8 in it though. Is it the 5.7 Vortec you mentioned in your description? If so, you're gonna have a blast with that engine man. Massive amounts of torque on L31's.

BTW, how many miles on it?

it's a factory 350, dual fan, auto with the 140 mph speedo and t tops.... I wish I could take it home with me and fix it. It's gorgeous.

Anywho, yes my 86 is getting the l31 lol, pretty much stock though, I tossed in some Alex springs, a 95 lt1 camshaft, an rpm preformer intake and a carb ontop. Have decided which carb I want yet. It's also getting an hei dizzy. I can't wait till its done. I'm starting on my project December 21 . I can't wait!!

God that's just awful. All the desirable options and a pretty color and it's just rotting in that yard. I'd buy some wheels and ****** that UP. Do you know how much he would sell the whole car for?

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

well i got some more pictures of the blue bird today to show what these cars can look like and what some stupid people will do to such a beautiful car, note that the damage under the hood is from me trying to get the serpintene setup off. everythings still there just removed.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

man that bird is nice. under the hood isnt even modified (except you cutting that bracket) and its the 89 with the best maf setup and start of the single belt serpentine setup. i see those serpentine setups going for at least $100. and has gta style interior with those molded door panels and power everything. where is this place located? and have u happen to ask if its for sale yet?
