Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
You're going to want to call around for that. I was quoted between $180 and $230 per ton when I scrapped the Bird a couple of months ago.
Has the cat been gutted? How much you want for it? PM me with info.

PM me with a price for the V6 one... I have nothing between the head ports and the muffler right now (going headers, gave away y-pipe, mid pipe was rusted).

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
If the cat is good it is worth around 70 bucks, also and engine and transmission are in 2 different catergories but it should bring 175 ish for everything including the cat, but might only be 125 ish depending on what they want to give for it.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
honestly, I think a sensor. Every once in awhile it would stall out on me after it went into closed loop. But since I took it out I took the sensors I needed for my v8. The sensors I took were the coolent temp sensor, both oil pressure sensors.

Toss in the nose cone and its yours man. Also found why it was stalling, some PO hacked the wiring like hell going to the injectors, IAC, and the TPS. And they were laying against a shock tower so when I moved just the right way it would ground out.

the motor doesn't burn oil or knock or anything I just wanted a new a faster motor, the trans doesn't slip or anything and drives great, just doesn't have power, the motor goes with the y pipe, radiator, new starter. I know the bumper is rough but its atleast in 1 peice

Best thing to do for the engine mounts is to pull the A-arms... While you're at it, you should probably replace the bushings and the balljoints in the arms. I'd get a polyurethane set so I wouldn't have to worry about them again.

Okay, got my old mounts off and new v8 mounts in their place, I still have to bolt the brake line down but thinking about leaving it alone since its just a single line, got my motor and trans together and almost ready to drop in

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
thanks for buying it, im glad it went to someone who can use it and enjoy it because it is a good little motor for what it is, just not enough power for me. i cant believe someone walked away over $50, thats so sad, when i pulled up to your place i was drooling cause i saw louvers i wanted, a spoiler, wheels, the gauges, ect that i wanted lol. if i didnt need the moeny to finish this i would have traded you for a few things lol. and honestly that cover isnt that rough, the paint chipped and it needs sanded but is solid, i started to take all the broken parts out of it like the grille and the lights and took the light bar out so i could install mine tonight, it just needs alittle love is all. its saveable. thank you again for that nose, i really needed that more than anything so i can get my car back on the road, im having withdraws lol.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well got up today and decided that i needed to get on the ball on getting this project done, i got my old motor mounts out and noticed that they wouldnt work with my 350, went up to zone and fought for a good few hours to install them. but got them in none the less. since that v6 is out of my way and my picker was free i was going to mount my engine and trans together, well after i got it on i remembered i forgot something, rear main seal!!! opps!!!! up to autozone i went again lol, got that installed after i dropped my pan again, got my flex plate installed and got my motor and trans together, got the torque arm mount re mounted on the trans and got it ready to go, i also got my intake today aswell, got an eldabrock preformer intake for vortec heads that was brand new for $100. but i also bent one of my intake bolts with my motor chain so i need to replace those and get my intake gaskets. ordering my fuel pressure regulator this week and my kickdown bracket from members on the board so those will be out of the way. all i need to do now is install the motor and trans and get everything buttoned down and settled into its new home. i can now be welcomed to the wonderful world of v8 power.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
oh i cant wait, they have more hp than l98s, but i also have more now that i upgraded to the f body camshaft, but lost alittle torque. i smile every time i look at my motor and imagine what its going to be like. got a few more pictures today, i fractured my ankle yesterday when i went to shut the garage, i fell off the 4th step of my back pouch so im home for today but sadly cant work on my car lol, i cant even walk out to the garage without almost falling or being in tears. but i went out today and got pictures of my new nose kinda installed and a better more brighter picture of my motor.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
actually just got back from the ER, i chipped my ankle bone and streched 2 of the 3 tendons in my leg on my left side. i was wanting to paint the engine bay black while the motor was out but im putting all the money i have into this motor so that will wait till i get an actually repaint. but i think it will look sexy sitting in there, im just hoping it will clear the hood lol. and actually i had some bright red paint from when i had my car repainted that i used to respray that bumber, it matchs somewhat, im going to put a few more coats on it then repaint the headlight buckets and stick it on, atleast it will look decent. just ordered my mallory return style FPR that only has 500 miles on it, and my kickdown bracket for my tv cable and throttle cable.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
didnt get alot done tonight, after i cleaned the garage up and got my rubber catch all mat from under the front of the car( rubber ford ranger bed mat LOL) i got the car back in the air and got the starter installed, and started work on the shifter bracket on the trans. i cant get one of my bolts to even start now in the trans and i dont understand why, they both came out, and i can get one started but cant get the other one in at all, also cant get my speedo cable to go on for some off reason. tomorrow i should get my manifolds back from the shop( cut the air tubes off and having them welded shut) so ill get those installed, y pipe installed, figure a way to tie my intermediate pipe up and away from the ground till i can get it up to the exhaust shop and get my reducer pipe made. after that i have to unbolt the torque arm from the rear pig so i can install it on the trans mount then reinstall it, then the car should be able to be dropped on the ground for awhile since ill be done under there, i still need to get my ac and power steering brackets on and get those bolted to the motor and the belts ran, figure out what to do with my alturnator, hook everything up, route fuel lines, and hopefully hit the key and listen to her purr. still need to find the fuse i blew, do any of you guys know which one i might have blown? oh i also got my light bar unbolted from the car so i can get it mounted to my new bumber and get that installed aswell.

Yes, you are going to want to run cheap oil for the first 3K. You will need to change it about 3 times (generally about 2-500, 1000, and then 3000), and you will want to get some break-in additive to add to it until the first 3K rolls around. Buying expensive oil for break-in is pointless as it costs about 3x as much. As for antifreeze, anything will do, but avoid the orange stuff. And the oil filter... Just get and keep using an AC/Delco filter, a PF52. Just about all of the rest are JUNK.
Torque arm reinstallation to the trans is easy. Pull out the rear springs, and you can do whatever you need to do to the torque arm. However, this requires putting jack stands under the rear subframes and not the axle (axle needs to hang free).
Also, did you send the starter and parts to scrap with the engine?

got my manifolds back today, the welding teacher did these weird, he but bolts off that fit snuggly into the pipe plugs that the airtubes use to fit in on the manifolds, then welded the bolts into and onto the pipe plugs. seems to work though, im going to try and install them today but those are a tight fit.

personal favorites so i take no chances is WIX oil filter only. i used ACdelco as well in the past. but NEVER use fram. i noticed that engine i got from you had one on there lol. oil mobile 1 is probably the best one to use after your engine break in. i dont put that expensive oil in ALL my cars, just a couple, the others run valvoline high mile stuff (red jug) syn blend

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well didnt have alot of time to work on my car since im in the process of moving my grandma into my house so weve been moving junk and painting so thats taking all my time to finish my motor up, but on the plus side im getting the money to finish my car and motor off, might even get it repainted when taxs come in. but in the time i did have today i got my front bumper mounted to the light bar, turn signals back together and grille in, also mounted it, i still need to tighten up a few nuts but here it is pretty muchm not pretty but i only did a light coat of bright red and light black on the buckets, i still need a driver side turn signal since the lens is busted in this one but atleast i have a light in there and its street legal pretty much, just looks like complete **** to me anyways, i miss having a gorgeous car.
