^ what he said, got a great car going my advice don't ever sell it, and a wise word, being overly cautious never killed anyone (especially while driving)

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Thank you both, I know being cautious doesn't hurt anyone, like I keep telling my mom I honestly don't know what happend the day I got into my accident, I don't remember ever seeing her, turning into her, or anything else, all I remember is seeing her right before I hit her. It's all just blank before that. I hate that it happened but if it didn't I would still have the v6 in my car and I wanted my v8 in very bad so I guess this is the good side. I'm still learning as you both said but sometimes not knowing things when I need them is killing me or getting Into a rush kills me, I noticed today that I didn't put the brake line back that goes along the I member and its sitting down in front of my oil pan, still need to decide what I need to do about that. And I'm not selling this car, it's my baby and I plan on keeping it, Iv got too much time, money, blood, and sweat into her to get rid of it, hell on my way home from my accident I balled my eyes out because of what happend and after I got it home I honestly cried more sitting there looking at it and seeing the damage I did.

Stock air dam will give you pleanty of air, what about your radiator now, will it cool the 8 with the fan set up? I am not sure about the 6 cyl setup.

well having two as we said wouldn't hurt, you can try removing one or the other and driving around a bit to see if the car heated up any quicker without one or the other

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
I've already removed the big flap, nothing much for an update on the motor or car but Iv got my intake gaskets, radiator hoses, thermostat, and oil. Got most of it installed but I need a factory waterneck and factory exhaust manifold studs cause the ones I have are too long and my waterneck is too big.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
got a chrome waterneck from autozone and got my hoses all on for the radator, got my intake and water pump hole plugged, hei distributer wired up, oil pressure sensors installed and my y pipe kinda half *** installed, i need manifold bolts for the passenger side to tighten it up and get it finished then get my y pipe the rest of the way installed, i got the rear of the car in the air so i can remove the torque arm and get it installed back on the tail shaft and get the driveshaft mounted to the rear pig, after that i need to tie up the front of my intermedaite pipe till i can get it to the exhaust shop to get a test pipe welded in its place. should be able to drop the car after that. i hope... im getting burnt out on working on this and not getting any real results..

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
it shouldn't no, i feel imo the problem with the returned ones is that the buyer just slaps some rtv on it and tightens it all down, then it leaks and they return it, we definitely don't have the smartest customers

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well made some decent progress today, got my torque arm off the rear pig and mounted to the tailshaft but now i cant get the damn thing back on the rear diff lol, got my intermediate pipe tied up away from the ground till i can get it up to the exhuast shop and get my test pipe welded in. but i also got all my radiator hoses on and tight, got my cooling system half way filled untill a hole in my intake reared its ugly head and pointed out the fact i missed it and didnt have the plug, i got the wires i needed to get all wired up for the car to run, hooked up the battery and came to the conclusion that the starter isnt even close to the flywheel, so im getting an actual starter for a thirdgen tomorrow and a v8 power steering pump and am going to try and get everything buttoned up, got my fuel lines all ran and fuel regualtor plumbed and i am getting fuel up to my filter so im doing something right, just have to get it adjsuted correctly after i get the car running, im getting up tomorrow, finishing my exhuast, try to find a new tranny pan bolt since the one i have is squared off and find a u joint strap bolt i lost and i should be able to drop my car on the ground, get all the accessorys ran and hooked up and time the motor and she should start. i hope anyways, heres a few pictures of the motor as it sits tonight.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well hauled *** today on my car, got up and my dad and i went out and got the torque arm remounted, got my new starter in and shimmed so it will turn the motor over, got my tranny lines in and installed, u joint straps taken care of, torque converter bolted to the flexplate, y pipe installed and bolted together, shifter installed and adjusted and got that baby sitting on the ground. got almost everything done, got the motor timed, all my lines ran, spark plugs ran, fuel line ran, power to everything, i need to get 1 longer exhaust manifold bolt and my manifolds are taken care of, need to trim my upper radiator hose to get it perfect, lengthen my distributer power wire, and hopefully she will start, i need to figure something out about my accesorries, my ac compressor doesnt want to line up with everything so im thinking about yanking it and just re installing it next year after i get everything i need to get it properly installed, need to get my alternator installed and stright, then get my power steering pump and get everything for it mounted. after that i need to adjust everything like my carb and valves and shes good to run!!!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
running alittle at a time, I think my float is sticking so I'm having to feed gas in through the carb from a can but its running and defiantly loud. I didn't expect for it to run, I had the whole wiring harness apart and was trying to locate my distributer power wire and was checking for spark and up she came lol, I had 2 plug wires disconnected surprisingly when it started.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well had alittle more time to work on the car, found out why my car wouldnt stay running, my carb wasnt squirting out gas, i had alot of gas up to my glass fuel filter in the line going to the carb, but no gas coming out when i moved the throttle. well i tore it down today with a rebuild kit and found out why, this thing hasnt ever been open, and its a day younger than i am, my birthday is november 29th, 1994, this carb was made november 30th 1994 lol, and you can tell it sat for awhile, everything in it was black and sticking from laqored gas, so im letting it sit and soak before i rebuild it to let it break all that crap up. should be able to start it and let it run tomorrow on its own, then i need to figure out the brackets, i deleted my ac so it was out of my way till spring then ill put everything back in, and found a powersteering pump off an 84 camaro, but need to figure out my alternator issue before i can really let it run.

i'd ditch the glass fuel filter, they break, and the rubber grommets that hold the glass in place tend to melt, had several returned all of them failed or broken, just tryin to look out for ya, engine looks badass though

the glass is the problem, engine vibrations lead to it cracking, the plastic universal ones we sell work alright its harder to vibrate plastic into cracking

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
. thinking i messed up something in the bottom end or bent a pushrod or 2, i can hear it every time i go to start the motor or kill it and its coming to a halt. my dad thinks its the flex plate or lose torque converter.... i didint noticed it while the motor is running but only while its cranking over or i killed the key... im going to get it in the air tomorrow and start it and watch the flex plate and see if i can hear it in the bottom end or if it is the flex plate or torque converter... im kinda scared about this. when its running it sounds amazing( to me) but you have to remember im running 3" y pipe so its loud and i cant really hear the motor and this is the first motor i built so i dont know what im listening for to begin with...if it turns out okay all i need now is alternator and brackets, and a power steering pump to get it going and back on the road. Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Well think I found my problem with the knocking, my starter isn't disengaging from the flexplate and it had enough power to actually stsrt the motor but isn't shimmed enough to pull itself back from the flexplate. Got my engine alittle quieter today, while trying to track down that aweful knocking sound I thought it might be my rocker arms aren't adjusted, so I popped the valve covers and found like 6 VERY loose rocker arms, so I tightened them up and started the motor again and watched them and its quiet, my motorsideling around 2 grand but I'm also using my v6 tach so it's off some aswell, I still need to ring it down because it is idling way to fast. But I also nada other kick in the face, as I had my valve covers off today I started seeing white milky coolent squirt out of the rocker arms, I happened to remember that I had a mishap when I was filling my cooling system, I didn't have my intake tight while filling the system and it dumped coolent into the motor I guess, going tomorrow to get a cheap filter and tranny fluid to run through the motor to take care of it and clean it up inside again, then going back to motor oil. Probably my 5w-30 this time.

small amounts of either one of your options wont seriously hurt your engine, you can relax about that, if anything get a can or two of seafoam and back it out of the garage and let it burn everything out, all seafoam is, is k1 kerosene how exaclt did you engine get coolant in it? why cant you just drain the oil and then refill it?

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well really found my noise tonight, crawled under the car so i could drain the oil out and drain the filter and thats some nasty looking stuff, but while i was under there i found a flexplate bolt and i thought to myself, "this isnt suppose to be here", so i started looking at my flexplate and sure enough its looser than a mother, i can move it back and forth between the motor and trans, and side to side moving the torque converter with it. moved it around and out fell another TC bolt, well i took out the last bolt and the flex palte is chewed up from the torque converter moving. so i get to replace that now.. bbelow is a picture of the oil, nasty aint it? luckly there wasnt any metal or large metal shavings or peices in it, so i did something right i hope.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
Replaced my oil, put fresh 5-30 oil in, I'm replacing the flexplate tomorrow when I get up and ready for the day, I had my new alternator checked off my old 90 and it rested good but ran rough so it might have a bearing going out. I decided to eBay my damn get wot brackets and found several aftermarket peices for like $20 so I'm getting that ordered, have my new alternator plug coming in the mail from a great guy, thanks me again Dan!!! I also found a power steering pump, just need to buy it and installed it, the. I'm off to the exhaust shop after I tune everything in like the idle, fuel/air mix, and timing. But I'm getting my car repaired after Christmas, I'm going back to maaco, but I'm going to the shop I went to last time, they did a decent job on mine and 2 years after it was painted it still looks good so ill go back again to have my car look decent. Going when their presidential is half off

well got alot done today actually, got my trans seperated from my motor and got my old flex plate down, all the bolts were litterally finger tight, i used my fingers to removed every single one, went to go get my new flex plate and uh oh, the new one is bigger, well me and my dad had to run to my uncles junkyard to get some tires for his truck that he bought and i happend to see an alterantor there from a 79 chevt truck that had the brackets i needed, BAM he let me have them, got them and a power steering pump for my motor so i got those installed he even gave me a new alterantor for the brackets, i mean new, all iv got left is the top bolt for the alterantor adjuster, and a belt for it and this bad boy is DONE!!!

ask him what its from? with what specific engine? and then look one up, cross reference the part number, and to make sure its good get it tested at autozone, that'll atleast tell ya whether or not its good and will work

yes carquest is fine, i also choose mobile 1, then second best is valvoline high mileage as well, and never run fram or any filter that doesn't have a bypass in it, seeing if it gets plugged it will starve the engine or cycle dirty oil through the engine and keep going on a great project, and i have lots of parts for these cars seeing i part them out and sometimes fix them so if you need anything pm me thanks Mark.

yes carquest is fine, i also choose mobile 1, then second best is valvoline high mileage as well, and never run fram or any filter that doesn't have a bypass in it, seeing if it gets plugged it will starve the engine or cycle dirty oil through the engine and keep going on a great project, and i have lots of parts for these cars seeing i part them out and sometimes fix them so if you need anything pm me thanks Mark.
