Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

It's not a Z28 or IROC, so its not worth a lot of money, but if some of the parts are good, its easily worth $300. If its in better shape than what you have, why not?

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

i think its a sports coupe, idk i have really looked into it, i guess the engine runs, the intake and the phemn (forget how its spelled) are in the well area but the fuel pump died on it in the middle of a v8 swap, which is why the intake is off.

Yes its a sports coupe. I asked because its not the original hood, if it was fiberglass that would have been a plus. phemn? Do you mean Plenum?

Rust will determine everything. If the body is more solid than the 90 start swapping. Either way the V6 would have to go if it was me.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

The 90 wasnt bad, small surface rust on the floor pans, alot of surface rust around the windsheld, around the doors on the roof so idk, my 90 has a v6 too so the 2.8 will work fine.....if it runs.........i dont know how long the intakes been off so i dont know if it wil start

Rust around the windshield and the doors sound like it could be expensive, especially if it is leaking to other areas.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

as far as i could tell the only area leaking was my hatch area and i know where it was running off too., that and the pant was badly damaged so thats why alot of that surface rust was coming in, have a look and see.

I think between the two cars and a paint job, you could probably escape with a decent car. It just looks like your going to be moving a lot from one car to another, whichever way you go.

I'd have a barn full if I could. But 1 good one is better than a few bad ones. Now a days, its amazing how many f-bodies die so that one can keep going.

it' a Z28 hood off an earlier model. If you were closer to me I would have already hit you up for it. It's my favorite hood

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

its a z28 hood and its fiberglass , and i got the car today, little surface rust, CLEAN floorpans, looks like brand new exhust , new tires and chrome rally rims, the interior is shot, the seats and the plastics seem alright so after i gut the inside im selling it, im taking the 90's interior.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

update on the 86, car is running and running strong for a 2.8, the z26 hood was shot so i went out and bought an iroc hood with louvers, i went out and got a firebird spoiler for it that i fell in love with., all the black interior is in and looking sharp, the exhaust wasnt all there, i was missing the intermidate pipe so the cars going in to the shop at the end of the month. i also went out and bought some new rims aswell so im getting new viper gts for those aswell, the only rust on the car is on the passenger side quarter panel, i have a quarter size rust spot about half up the panel and the very bottom of the panel is eaten up, i replaced the fuel pump, i installed in injectors well really i put in an entire new rail and plugs and like i said shes running strong, for pictures please look at my album as there are too many for me to post on here, thank you and i will keep everyone updated.

Nice find. Before I got my sport coupe I really wanted a Z28 or an RS but now that I have the S/C I really like it. It seems all the Camaros I see are Z28's, RS's or IROC's not that many S/C's. Have fun with it.

Mark.

thats true, and i am, i burried my tires today, litterly lol, i went to pull the car forward so i could change the diff oil and while moving it my passenger front caliper clamped shut and i didnt relieze it, next thing i know my dad is running out of the hose pointing to my rear tires, when i got out my frame was almost touching the ground , after i got the jack under the frame and jacked it up so i could fill the hole in so i could set it down, i barley had to move the jack handle it was that close!

im not for one reason, my grandpa bought and funded me this car and also provided me with as much information as he could, he kept saying his dream was to finally see and hear this car run before he passed away becuase he had cancer...well about a month ago his cancer had shrunk so muc that he barley had it and i got the car running...well about 2 weks ago he passed away of a heartattack on his way to the hospital. this car is my tribute to him so this car is never going anywhere. its my pride and joy.

he did, right after he heard about his cancer shrinking i got the car running, i had just gotten my system installed the night before he passed...we sat outside and talked cars for almost an hour...the only reason im getting the car finished this early and fast is because my grandpa had plans on finishing the car before i got my license to drive, my grandma knew about this and is finishing his request....

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

I got a quick question about what kind of system you have. I see the 2.8's don't have very many beefy exhausts, what kind did you put in? I was also wondering if you were able to do twin pipes, because I know it sounds wierd for a berlinetta.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

i didnt do twin pipes, i had the original muffler put back on, so the exhaust system is really stock i just had a new intermidiate pipe made since the original was gone, the exhaust sounds decent right now, i have no complaints, i do miss the loudness but i think this is the best

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?

another update, have the car running and just got her repainted, shes getting a new windsheild next week and a new headliner and window sweep and also im putting on my new rims, shes falling together nicely, now all i need is window tint and shes set besides the small stuff, i need a passenger side turn signal lens cause its cracked, new gauge cluster lens since i scratched this one up putting it in and a few minior things here and there, the biggest small thing i need are the rear seat belt retractors since i swapped interior from tan to black but other than that shes done :]

That is really nice!! I wish my project came together that fast. I've had my 84z for almost 13 years now, but that's another story!! Did a shop paint it or did you have someone you know do it?
