to keep the cowl or lose it

Hey guys. im having a hard time deciding what to do about my hood. I love the 4inch harwood cowl that i have on my car. however i dont have anything under it to realy back it up. i love the look however i also love the look of the oem iroc hood. So what do you think would look better the iroc hood or keep the cowl. and y?

You don't have to be fast to have a good looking car anyway.

Easy - get something under the hood to back up that 4" cowl....

Seriously, I personally like the functionality of a cowl on any car vs. the non-function of the Iroc hoods...

Well, I'm in the same boat as you. I have a cowl hood and a V6 under it so I say keep it. I also have future plans for the car to put a V8 in it

Re: to keep the cowl or lose it

A smaller cowl like the one Coolwheels84 has looks better in the pic, but yous looks pretty good too. Who cares whats under the hood, most cars can't back up their looks anyways lol. Either way you go it will look good, it's a 3rd gen!

Depends, stock for stock your is faster, but gears and a tune, I've read V6 cars out running the TBI 305s. I've got a cam, roller rockers, ported heads, and other things in my motor, I bought it as a replacement for the stock V6 that for 250 bucks, if I tuned the computer, and gave it a new tranny, it would be a lot faster than it is. But really, if it looks good, and sounds good, that's all that matters.

Oh no, this is absolutely the slowest car I've ever owned including some hondas. The 2.8L only has like 108hp at the crank. I couldn't outrun a plastic bag blowing in the wind. lol.

No its a SS hood.. which is the one I want.. I wish they made an SS hood in like a 3in cowl that would look really good. As for the cowl question keep it it looks a lot better then the plain stock hood..iroc or not.. but if u wanna change it I have a iroc hood that's ready for paint with a quick wet sanding.. if u wanna trade

cowl hoods are mean looking. even if you cant run with it i would keep it just because i love the way cowl hoods look. you can always start building later and then you will be glad you kept it.

Coolwheels. how many inches is that cowl? looks real good.

OP: Keep the cowl, if you're gunna build you motor there's no use in buying a hood that won't work later on. that's just my 2cents.

its not an SS hood its a stock RS hood that i molded a scoop onto and then cut open a vent for the ram air effect. Im actually trying to sell it. so if anyone knows someone that wants one in NC give me a shout.

The older V6 is slower than the newer ones I believe.

I like the old one .... then thinking about it I think I like the look of the old one, which may have to do more with paint than function. I would .... keep the new one for function and .... it's something with the paint, too much black. Take a look in photoshop.

Thanks! It's a 3" And btw, the '84 2.8 only has 107hp at the crank which is like driving a 245hp Z in slow motion.
