87 Camaro
Well I've tried to sell this car multiple times, to friends, relatives, and even here on the board but no one would buy it for some reason. I decided to fix it up and I thought I would post a little build thread on it.

2 weeks ago my dad and I replaced the plugs, wires, brake lines, brake pads, turned the rotors, reinstalled the alternator, got new tires installed, put air shocks on the back with a set of WS6 springs, a set of WS6 struts and springs are going on the front, I have a set of e-fans for it, installed a power steering steering pump, and a little more of this and that. All in all the price minus the tires was somewhere close to $200.
Now my plans for this car is for it to be a DD so keep that in mind. I need something that is as good on gas as possible, and my last Camaro got 27mpg so I'd like to try and hit somewhere in that mark. I'm getting 22 right now. Here are my plans for the future.
-Edelbrock 600 carb (I know, some people hate them but I've had good experiences with them)
-Paint job when it warms up some
-Front spoiler needs to be fiberglassed back together it has a crack in it
-New cam/Vortec heads? I have a set from a 350 that have been ported, polished and decked. Will these work on this car? (305)
-New set of rims at some point. I like whats on it now so I'm not too worried about that.
-Transmission rebuild (700R4)
-Window sweeps, the inside ones are trash, does anyone know where I can get a set?
I'm dropping the trans in the next couple weeks and I'd like to get some info on that. While I'm rebuilding it is there anything I should stick in there? A shift kit maybe? Different stall converter? Remember that I'm trying to keep this as fuel efficient as possible and most miles seen will be highway miles.

at first when all i saw was the top half of the car along with the red seats i thought it was my car.
BTW how are you getting 22mpg? is that all highway? i'm getting around 11-14mpg, however that is about 98% city and i'm not easy on it all the time.

Re: 87 Camaro
Yeah I've had it since I was 15 and unfortunately all I did was let it sit. There is no rust underneath it, though. It runs great but D and OD went out a few weeks ago and I haven't bought a new transmission for it yet. I'm thinking about putting an LT1 in it since they're so cheap anymore.
As for my gas mileage thats all "highway" mileage. It's extremely hilly highway mileage, though. If it were flatter I believe I'd be getting somewhere in the high 20's. My S-10 gets 26mpg on a flat trip but on that highway it gets 17 because I can't put it in OD. Poor little thing

Alright I got a 500hp built 700R4 from a friend for $200 and put it in the car, not that the car will ever make 500hp
Now I need to get started on my motor build. I'm keeping the 305 unless I can find a 350 in the next few weeks, and I need to know if I can put a set of Vortec heads from a 99 truck on my 305. I know that they will physically bolt up, and I know that I need an intake, but will I lose too much compression?
I also picked up an IROC hood with blisters that I plan on putting on it.
Here is a picture my girlfriend took

Kinda sad that this is what I am looking for at the moment. Sucks my budget comes available this late in the game.
Car looks good. Any updates?

Re: 87 Camaro
Wow Carlos way to dig a thread up

I haven't done alot to it over the summer as I'm trying to save up to buy a house but I have done a few things. Last weekend it overheated so I changed the radiator, both hoses, water pump, both heatercore hoses and the core itself. Most of those things had small leaks anyways and I already had all the brand new parts to replace them.
I also found about 4 decently large cracks in the water jackets in my block from where it sat all last winter with water in it
(my fault) which were easily sealed with some JB weld. It isn't a big deal anyways cause I'm either still going to sell it eventually or stuff a 350 vortec in it. I really want a V8 (either size) with t tops, a 5 speed, and some sort of fuel injection (no carb) and if I find one I'll get rid of this. I also installed some new rear springs and some air shocks so that my back wells wouldn't come down on top of my large tires.
Thanks for the interest Carlos!! I've been following your Firebird build closely, and I really like what you've done with it. Maybe we can get together sometime and go to one of the cruises!

Re: 87 Camaro
I buttoned up the heater core today so now I won't have to freeze my nads off on my 6am drive to work. I also put a new headliner in since I had no fabric on my old one at all and that stuff was getting all over me
and I fixed my temp sender/sensor problem since my car has overheated twice since I got it fixed and I could never tell until I heard the valves chattering. Next week I have to do the power steering pump again since I burned it up. And I have to do the front lip which is one from a 91/92. Pics tomorrow!

Yeah the tires were pretty cheap $320 for the set, and I used the rims that came on the car. The front ones are a little rusted but they still look good. The body is in excellent shape, there are 2 small dings on the whole thing and they'll be dealt with next spring before it's repainted. I can't believe I tried to sell this thing for $500

Re: 87 Camaro
Well it started snowing Tuesday so I begged my father to help me put my S10 back together real quick so I wouldn't have to drive my car in the weather. It would have taken 10 minutes but he pretty much told me to go to hell. After work I walked outside and immediately saw this:
Obviously I'm devastated. To top it off it was a hit and run and I have liability insurance. I was quoted at $925 today for the repair...
On the bright side I think I know who did it.

I did and I'm still working on getting it pretty straight. The front spoiler is in my garage since I'm going to paint the car next spring anyway.
