91-92 Red Z-28 Rims, hate the red want reg look
Hey guys looking for some advice on how to change the rims on a 92 Camaro I might be buying. Its a 1992 Z-28 Camaro that has those Red painted sections on the rim. I hate that and just want it to look like the normal non-painted ones. (if that makes sense) Would I be able to just remove the red paint and its a normal aluminum under it? Are those regular rims painted a light gray

Remove the Red, polish the areas that are machined, wash with dish detergent, dry the rim, polish with a clean dry diaper (real soft), re-clearcoat. No need to paint in the gray, it will look "right" just by doing the steps above.

Strip the paint and clear off, repaint the areas with a catalyzed silver. SEM makes a good spraybomb product if you choose to go that route. When dry, polish your wheels and don't clear them. Clearing over polish won't adhere and you'll be back to square one. Use Mothers on the bare metal and keep 'em clean.

I was going to ask the same question. Mine are red. but the previous owner did a poor job and painted black over the red. I think I might just strip the painted areas and clearcoat!
