NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
I live in New York and bought this car last week from a guy down the road who was moving to texas and couldn't bring the car with him. He was the original owner and the car only had 47k miles. The interior was in showroom condition. I got it for a steal at $2,000. All that was needed was a good tune up and fresh paint which is in the process right now. Only downside though is it's a 305 automatic but that solution is a 327ci/375hp fully built carb motor sitting in my garage.

With the low miles on that car I would probably just keep it all original for the possibility that it just might be worth quite a bit someday. Either way I'm all for a motor swap!

Very nice! I would keep all of the original equipment when you do the swap. That way it could be reverted back to stock one day.
Re: NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
are you sure thats not 147k miles?? I've been out of the 3rd gen scene so long, when did they switch to 6 digit odometers?

Such low miles, and you got it from the original owner, LEAVE IT STOCK!!!
Buy a high mileage car to swap the carb'ed motor into.

Yep, I agree, I would leave it alone. Put your money into fixing the paint and it will be worth some good money if you don't put a lot more miles on it. I wouldn't do the motor swap either. If you want a go fast machine, find a beater with a blown motor and put the big engine it that.

Nice find, but I agree with everyone, don't swap out the 305 and SURELY don't put a carb on it!

Re: NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
yup 1990 was the 6 digit speedo's so it could have 147k. I dont think the owner was lying about it though. Cause it if really only had 47k he'd be trying to get more than 2k for it. I also agree with leaving it closer to original condition. I know 305 tpi/automatics arent really high demand, red is common color etc. But if it really only has 47k its pretty awesome. But on the other note. Its your car, do what you want and who cares what people on thirdgen.org who are all biased think about it and do what makes you happy

Re: NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
Nice find, the car looks really clean. And dont pay much attention to the "keep it stock" guys, its a 305 and if you dont want to get spanked by every v6 mustang currently being built an engine swap is in order. And its not like third gens are going to be worth big buck anytime soon, especially with the current wave of new muscle cars being built now. however look into keeping fuel injection, if not the tpi look into one of the new self-tuning throttle body kits from FAST or Holly if money allows. My father installed the FAST kit on his 327 chevelle and it is stellar, and can be retuned in an hour to conform to watever mods you may add down the road not to mention the gas milage increase, just a thought. Have fun!

I'm down with the LS1 swap. ...or any EFI swap. i wouldn't do the carb. ...as for keeping it stock, I don't know that 47k is really "low" mileage. Lower than average maybe, but its' seen it's share of wear and tear. It's not like it's perfect, and it's not original paint since you're painting it. There are so many of these cars. Who cares. Mod it!

Re: NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
This isnt a car i plan on making a profit on. I want to own this car for well over 10-20 years probobly even give it to my kids when i have them. My dad just restored a 75 camaro and thats never leaving the family. So i have the same plan for my IROC. More girls look at my car even with the shitty paint rather than the rich boy down the block with the BMW. If i wanna do the swap i will...haters ganna hate.

Re: NEW CAR! 87 IROC-Z 47k Miles Got For $2000!
I agree completely, do what you want to it. Regardless of miles, 17 second quarter miles are never cool. I dig the idea of an LS swap, there are so many LS variations in the junkyards now it almost dosent make sense to build a traditional sbc unless you have one already at your disposal. A silverado 5.3 and ebay turbo = 500+ hp for cheap, check the april 2011 issue of hot rod.
On another note, your dads bumper camaro is awesome. I always liked the 70's five spoke mag ralleys. Really well done car.

i didn't, but from the looks of the interior (which i'll take pictures of) there isn't one rip, or stress mark in ANY of the seats and there all black leather. Also the carpet doesn't have one stain its still a shiny black and the pedals have little ware on them.

Yeah, but not owners who only drove their cars 2000 miles per year. That type of owner is only driving in the summer and would be garaging the car. Most likely that car has 147k or 247k miles. If the new owner really wants to know he can post up the VIN and Im sure someone can run a carfax for him. I always run a carfax on any car I buy because I want to know its history.

The reason their paint jobs turn out so bad is that most Maccos don't do proper prep work before they throw on the paint. So, to make sure yours turns out right check in on how they are prepping your car for the actual paint.
