Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Mines one of those rags to riches stories, except I'm not rich so the resto is going reallly slow...
I picked her up the week after I graduated high school. She was the biggest POS id ever seen but I fell in love almost instantly and have put countless hours and dollars toward making her perfect. She is a 1992 Z03. She was purple haze with silvedf stripes and had iroc rims with no center caps lol.
Exterior- 2 inch cowl hood, 91-92 Z28 grille, hawks 5 inch spoiler, glass ttops, Ion torque thurst 2 look alikes 17 inch chrome, tint all around 5% in the back, blacked out side markers and taillights and replaced gfx.
Interior- had to redo all of the wiring, red leds throughout entire interior, headliner and door panels recovered in black faux-leather, kenwood headunit and speakers, and subs and an amp I got for free and never hooked up. Center consol cup holder lol and Also red flame floor mats (its a joke between close friends adds hp just like a nos sticker lol)
Performance - 350 swap, hedmann longtubes, cat delete, flowmaster ? Series lol, 2.5 inch exhaust, gmpp ignition, open element air filter, most of the ultimate tbi mods.
My 350 came from a 85 vette, which has some forged internals so there will be some nitrous in the future lol. Plan on paiting her red and putting the herritage stripes back on in black, I miss those real bad... gonna get 3.42s or similar again. Torque converter and transgo shiftkit planned. Then just random engine upgrades and maybe a Holley tbi

There's loads of stufff I left out that has been replaced, which is virtually everything. Whenfirst got her she had no tailights no gauges and would only hold $3 of gas, talk about a good night stranded in the boonies.
RockyD, the smashed up picture made me very sad lol but I think she looks better now
Skellitor, I like how much effort you put into a truly custom job, and how into and enthused you are about it. Really quite nice. That said I personally don't like your car. Hope I don't offend you I think you did a really good job so fa or just not my taste. But apparently its your taste and honestly that's all that matters, and you're not ricing it out or driving a honda so keep it up

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Hells yah man. I didn't get it because I thought other people would like it haha. Especially not here TEXAS. But now I need to save up for a better engine so that it can go as fast as it looks haha.
Truth be told, if I didn't have this paint job, I would go for an IROC blue, or Black with red heritige stipes and a 2" cowl induction hood. But, one thing that I do like about this car, is that Its popular with the ladies. In general, a lady will be impressed with a car that looks nice rather than a car that goes fast. A beater 86 Berlinetta with primer green paint and a blown 383 stoker will get alot of respect from a hardy man, but a flashy Iroc with crome rims and a nice interior that doesn't smell like unburnt fuel will get WAY more attraction from women.
Good luck with your car man. Feel free to clutter up the thread with updates, and post some pics when you get it painted!

Thanks man. I'm really looking forward to upgrading this car. I regret having to sell my '89 before getting it finished. I had built a really nice 383 stroker combo and I wanted to set the car up so my wife could take it to the drag strip and run low 13's in it all day. With this one being it's a daily driver I don't know if I'm going to go all out like that.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
1991 Camaro RS 5.0 TBI with T-Tops. At 15 years old I was looking to get something to work on and for my first car I bought a 1968 Impala Custom Coupe with no engine, the trans was out, and it needed floors and those were all things I could do in my garage, until I noticed the frame rot and I dumped that thing as fast as I could, needless to say it was a 700 dollar lesson on buying a car. So now sitting around with nearly 2K burning a hole in my pocket I found my current car. It was local on craigslist for $2,000. The guy said it had a few problems but it ran great, and there was no rust or rot. So I took the hour and a half drive out and it was good looking, like I was told, no rust or rot and it fired right up. He told us about an exhaust leak which I found a bolt missing on the manifold which isn't all that big a deal unless he snapped it off and I have to drill it out. It also has other little problems, interior door handles are snapped off, the hood shocks are beat, the brakes are soft, etc...but when I got back from the test drive with my father I got out and said, "I want it, I'll give you $1000 cash today." He hemmed and hawed but eventually said fine. Then I said, "oh, but you have to drive it to my house." And he agreed to that too so the car made it an hour and a half on the highway up to 80ish MPH and through windy backroads too. One of the things that confused me though is the car says it has 128K miles on the dash and the title says 198K miles, but, oh well. I'm going to get a lot of the things that need to be done, fixed next weekend and then it will be a month and a half and I can drive her. I can't wait!

Well and my story......
After 10 years of my uncle asking me if I wanted the car I finally said yes. I was never in the position to have a project car. It is one of the best gifts I have ever gotten
91 rs
V8 305
Was aqua teal color w/ t tops now satin black (rattle can) won't believe it until you see it.
He brought it on a trailer from Cali to Az. This is the most fun driving I have ever had. I have had the car for over a year now. Has 192000 and still going strong. I have done the following:
Open element $35.00
3.42 rear end $125.00
Torque thrust wheels $650.00
80 series flowmaster muffler $50.00
3 inch single pipe from the cat back $100.00
Edelbrock Tbi 3704 manifold $125.00
Edelbrock true rolling timing chain $60.00
Ads superchip
Now needs lots of tuning and odds and ends
Parts I have in garage that I am putting on soon
Edelbrock headers and y pipe $150
Edelbrock 3704 tbi manifold $125
Thunderbolt supercat $50.00
Wants:
Lower the car
Tint windows

heres my 92 RS no real story other than it would be in a junkyard if it wasnt for my fiances dad buying it for 4000$ in worse shape than it is now, lets just say junkyards love us since i dont believe in reproduction parts, and so far we've spent less then 300$ and the interior looks almost new, and has glass t-tops (30$) and louvers(10$)
also it likes to control the radio and say things that seem relevent to the conversation, or just not start if we talk about getting another car

Welcome to TGO! Very nice ride. I love arctic white. Good luck with your car!
Nice. I love the tourqe thrust wheels. They look great on that car. Also a fair warning when installing a new throttle body. There are linkages that lead to the transmission, and if you get the wrong ones or they are messed up, you find yourself in need of a new tranny. Consult a transmission expert before performing this swap. Best of luck to you
Hah. You might have bought yourself an autobot there mate. Look for any stange symbols on the car haha.

I also have a white 91 RS and I wouldn't change the color for anything, I really want to do something with the interior though, I have this lame, common grey and the seats are all ripped. I'd love it red like yours, maybe do a matching white interior haha that would be interesting.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Hi everyone, I'm not new to the site but haven't been on in a long time so I had to re-register. I just picked up a '92 RS for my wife as her new daily driver. We've owned two previous 3rd gens, a white 87 RS and a black 89 RS. The white one was a V-6 car that I had rebuilt the 2.8L and the trans and added IROC rims to it. Drove that car for 5 years and it got stolen. Then I got the 89 RS and had built a 383 stroker engine and added weld wheels but never finished the car so I sold it. I owed her another camaro so here it is...
It's a 25th anniversary edition, 5.0L, auto, 2.73's. It needs some minor work but overall a good car. Future plans call for either a 350 TPI or a LS1 swap. I'm gonna redo the trans and put in a posi and some better gears.

Sweet man. Your going to be a happy camper when that transmission is done. I admit, the hard shifting gets anoing, but its worth it because I can kill most of the cars in my neighborhood. Including my neighbors Old Datsun 240Z (He's about my age). I was going down to the store the other day and he had his car out in the front of his driveway with his hood up and bunch of friends (and Ladies) standing around the car, and I nailed it as I was passing by and I think just about everyone there forgot that his car existed for a second or two haha. Got a few smiles. The biggest one being mine of course ; )

honestly we wished we had found a hard top car, living in AZ it can get a bit toasty. The glass is tinted dark and I put in the T-top shades.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Well I just picked up this 89 RS from a Co Worker I been asking if he would part with it for the past 3 years... Finally in Oct of 2011 he said he would sell me it to add to my other 5 camaros...
Sold me the car that has been sitting for almost 3 years for 600 bucks. White with nasty red interior.
And this is how it sits to this day so far... NO more red interior, full grey interior and 4th camaro seats, rearend, and soon to be dash and center console. Cant wait to get the hood so I can get this thing ready for paint.
And sorry for crappy phone pics.

I have 1500 posts and a Camaro with air brushed flaming skeletons and I only have 450 visitors! So I guess thats like,.. more. Yah, women are rare in these parts. Mostly because these cars smell like gas and testasterone. And swett.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Here's mine, sorry picures are old and kinda suck. But exterior wise its still pretty much the same. Been dropped a tad more all the way around though.
I had a purple haze 92 RS that got totalled, and started searching for another. Me and my dad drove up to Ohio from Atlanta back in 02' to pick up this car from the original owner, it had 32k on it at the time. This was right when they were stopping production, so we had trouble finding a good car at a reasonable price. The couple we bought the car from were crying when we left. I sent them some pics a few years back, but have since lost their email. It's been my daily since I bought it, and have put about 100k on it. I have done every repair and mod so far aside from any body work and obviously alignments.
92 RS Green Grey Metallic/Grey L03 Auto
Mods-
Upgraded 16" wheels, polished and painted
Z Grill colormatched with polished bowtie and bullethole grills
9007 headlight conversion with glass housings and wiring harness upgrade
4th gen seats
Custom floor mats
Handmade aluminum dash kit
Whiteface guages
Alpine deck (a must over the tape player)
13" C5 front brake upgrade w/drilled an slotted rotors
Rebuild 10bolt rear 3.23's Torsen posi D/S rotors
Eibach Sportlines
KYB AGX shocks
Hotchkis Subframe connectors
Hotchkis Trailing Arms
Hotchkis adjustable panhard bar
UMI trailing arm relocation brackets
UMI adjustable torque arm
UMI wonder bar
Poly bushings on all suspension
Full front end rebuild (gear box, tie rods, center link, idler arm)
J&M strut mount plates
Heddman Headers, Dynomax mandel pip, Dyno SS muffler and tips
K&N 13x4 open element
Ultimate TBI Mods
Polished Alum Water pump
Polished underdrive pulleys
Smog delete
Poly motor and trans mounts
Numerous normal repairs
Future plans are some type of aftermarket hood probably an SS or smaller cowl, some paint, some bigger wheels, and either an engine swap or at the very least some vortec heads and intake.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
1992 Camaro RS, L03 with a 700R4. Bought the car with a SPRAYING trans cooler line and no fluid in the trans so it didn't move at all but ran ok. car has 116,8XX on it and she is Purple Haze. The head liner is shot, but the rest of the interior is ok with the exception of the dash pad (which I already replaced). It needs a tune up and I think I have a vac leak somewhere but by the time I get home from work its too late to start it to diagnose because there is nothing after the cat.
The First set of pictures is the morning after I got it home. the last couple are after I put new trans lines in it, filled it with fluid and DROVE it out of and into the garage. that doesn't mean the trans is good but it does go into gear really nice so my fingers are crossed that once I take it for a test ride it will have all the gears.
So far it has been coming along nicely and haven't had a hard time with anything coming off (knocks on wood)
any way on with the pics
And after I swapped the trans lines in and how she is sitting now. only now the dash pad is 100% in

Car: 1989 Camaro RS--

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Not much to my story, just kind of looked, found it, and bought it.
Had been wanting/looking for a 5.0 Foxbody Mustang for some time for my first car back shortly after I turned 15. A friend of the family owned a body shop which was the rear half of a building (huge liquor warehouse on the front IIRC) which was also set far back from the road, so there was a long road leading up to the building and to the back. One day we were stopped by there for something or other, and as we were approaching on the long road leading up to the shop, at the end of it was a bright red '91-'92 RS backed in. Car was flawless except for a little rash on the front lip from a curb, which is why it was there to be sprayed. T-tops, 32k miles, and black leather. I took one look at the inside through the windows and I was sold on a Camaro instead of a Mustang. The interior design was far better than the Foxbody Mustang. Unfortunately that one wasn't for sale, though if it had been, at the time is was only 7-8 years old and with 32k on the clock and leather, it probably would've still been $10k or thereabouts, which was out of my price range at 15 years old. Wasn't overly concerned whether or not it was an IROC, it just had to be a later car with the ground effects and it had to be a V8/Auto with power accessories and AC. It had to be as nice as possible. That was the biggest criteria--I wanted a minty lesser trim model than a clean/cleanish higher level car. I had around $4000 to spend at the time, give or take.
So I continued buying the weekly Autotrader magazine at the convenience store (remember those days? This was 1999) and flipping through the performance vehicles section and the Chevrolet section for several months (looked at Mustangs also, it was kind of a whichever-comes-first deal). Didn't see anything good, just a lot of beat looking cars just based on the little black and white ad pictures, or just poorly written descriptions that didn't actually tell you anything about the car or what options it had. Then one day I had it open on the table and an ad caught my eye, that I seemed to have missed the first time I flipped through the book. It was an ad for a 1990 RS, blue/black, V8, Auto, AC, PW, PL, PM, CC, T-tops, 116k, no accidents, stored winters, garaged, one-owner, $4300/bo, and only about a half hour away. I hadn't looked at any other cars yet, but I had to go look at this one, seemed to have everything I was looking for, the ad was well-written in that it told me exactly what I wanted to know before even calling, and it looked super clean in the pictures. At the time I didn't realize that 1990 was a very lucky year to have given the transitions of the old GFX and the new dash. Also didn't appreciate how nice or fairly uncommon the Maui Blue was.
So my mom and I went to take a look at it. It drove nice (mom test drove it since I just had a permit) and the seller seemed to be a very honest about the car, and was selling it for his wife. The car had decent miles on it considering it had been stored winters, but when she bought it, her and her husband were dating and lived in different states, so every other weekend they would take turns driving the distance from IA/MN to IL to see each other, so she took the Camaro quite often in the summer for that. He said they were selling because they were just downsizing (they were busy people, she was an attorney) and each selling a car (he sold a Monte SS). They had a small son that they were thinking of keeping the Camaro for but ultimately decided to sell rather than save it for 10+ years. My mom and I went to talk about it in our car, and decided to take it. I paid asking price, which my mom and I both thought was fair given how clean the car was and how it drove and looked underneath.
I've shown my pictures 1000 times here, but I'm sure the original owner's jaw would drop if she realized that the little 15 year old kid they sold it to kept it as nice as possible and kept storing it in the winters (first winter I didn't drive it at all since I was 15 and didn't have a license, then the second winter I paid my friends $5 a week to bring me to school, then when I was 17 I bought a truck for a DD and have had two cars ever since) and still has it today just miles from where it was sold. To this day I haven't crashed it, nor even had a ticket. And I do still have the original Autotrader ad for it.

Saw my thirdgen on the side of the road on the way home from work and couldnt pass up the deal. I used to drive a 1997 chrystler concorde and a 1989 lincoln town car so the camaro was a serious upgrade.
My dad and I didnt always get along until I became interested in cars, now we work on it all the time. We've added:
-Stainless Steel Hooker Headers + Y-pipe
-Hooker Cat-Back exhaust system + Magnaflow 18" tips
-Custom fabricated "triple snorkel" air cleaner
-Sylvania Silverstar performance headlights
-Hotchkis subframe connectors
-K&N high flow filters
-TDS Wonderbar
-QA1 precision strut tower brace
-new alternator
-things I cant remember...

You probably see it most on the mid 90's Impala SS', they only made it in 92 on the thirdgen (I think 93,and 94 on the 4th) at about 2500 or so produced, none in a Z either.
I like the white on red too. If the outside is white or black, you gotta have red interior. My fav combo is probably the heritage cars with this combo and red stripes... I am a sucker for those puprle cars too though, would love a purprle/silver heritage Z... or a black/red Z vert

I think they used to put a similar purple on corvettes my dads old MG-B GT was pretty close to that and he said his paint used to be a factory vette color.

Re: RS Camaro owners, post a pic, your story, and some info about your car.
Officially my FIRST post on this website. I am a 27 year old college student who has been driving my sister's white Grand Am to school 3 days a week. She has pink girly things hanging from the mirror and I was just SO embarrassed to be seen driving up in that chick's car everyday. Something had to change!
I got $1300 in refund money last week and went craigslist surfing lol. Since I have to drive 80 miles per day round trip, I wanted something that was easy on gas (20+mpg). I saw a Camaro advertised for $1000 obo. I sent the guy a text and he said he still had the car, so I went to look at it. As soon as I saw it, I HAD to have it. lol. We looked it over, started it up, and I made up my mind that this car would be mine. I actually got him to lower his price to $850! A day later he lowered it again on me to $800. I was ecstatic! It took me 5 days to get everyone who borrowed my refund money back, but the car is sitting in my driveway right this second.
It's a 91 RS with a 3.1 engine (Im more worried about saving gas right now lol), 700R4 Automatic transmission. He replaced the stock hood with a more stylish hood off of an 83.
I just replaced both high beam headlights due to them being broken out, and the engine seems to have a miss in it, but still runs smooth when cruising.
I am just now begining the journey of bringing this car back to life, and I really hope the $800 I spent was worth it! I believe it was though. And I should add that I have ALWAYS loved 3rd gens =]

I just picked up an RS yesterday, not sure exactly what the plans are for it. In fact, another member here has been having title issues with their Camaro and I got a clear title with this one, so he may try to purchase it and swap his engine over to this one, it's a 5spd 305TBI car originally but has no engine or trans right now. IROC-Z hood, LS1 rear end with disc brakes, really solid car too.

This is my 89 RS V6 2.8 baby motor! It is two tone at the moment, but can't wait to get the car back to its full original color! It has original 56,000 miles on it, pretty clean. It sat for a lot of years before I bought it. According to MVD I am the third owner. There are still factory stickers on it. Even paint tabs on inside of doors.
I really do enjoy it, but its not my Iroc!! I like to keep it close to stock, I just got OEM 16"Iroc rims for it, and really excited to get them put on it. But the tires on my 15's are like new. And really don't want to pay for new tires just yet. There are really a lot of nice RS's out there. I have a refinished headliner to put in, but afraid it won't be the same if i tare it apart. It is not to bad, just want to make it like new!

So I got the trans redone, shifts nice and firm. While the trans was out I replaced the rear main seal and replaced the flexplate and installed a powermaster mini starter. Replaced the rear shocks, had the drive shaft balanced and new U-joints installed, new torque arm mount, replaced the front sway bar bushings, replaced the idler arm and one tie rod end, aligned it, new tires, adjusted steering box and got the A/C working. Next up is replacing the window motors and then get the windows tinted. After that exhaust, then fix the interior.
