Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
she looks killer, do you guys have any kind of brake cooling ducts? they'd help and probably be counted as a safety item.
Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
Team, our IROC is almost ready for Sears Point.. I will post some Pics of the build shortly.
We need a couple of things (note the 12:30am post :-))
T5 Transmission - ours is weak, concern we will make the weekend
Wheels, looking for a set of Rims 17X9, Steel ideally, Scotty, I looked at the American racing 17x9 TORQUE THRUST that you reference, they look like $170 each, that's too much for us..
We are in Costa Mesa, CA.. Cheers !

Bad Brad was a little expensive, he can rebuild ours for a reasonable price, but we will probably see if we can limp though sears point, then pull it and rebuild it after.. Too much to do this week :-)
Finding a 2nd trans would be good, for the @ track swap :-)

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
Not sure what the weight is now, we still have lots of crap on the engine, pretty standard, - not sure we will get to that before the race.. but we have stripped out everything else :-)
Of course we are leaving the IROC body kit on it, we have the need for speed.

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
hmmm if you could find a way to allow it to slowly spray into the combustion chamber over the course of the race and not all at once, it'd be almost like running higher octane fuel, or i'm wrong i have no idea lol, but!!!!!!!!!! if cooling is an issue, have you thought about say a long hose running across the top of the radiator with some holes cut in it, probably make this whole thing out of the wiper washer system or an old one, and use it to spray the engine with cool water over the course of the race to keep the temp lower? saw it on monster garage once but cant find a vid

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
This is kinda funny, my old (burned to the ground) engine made 218HP at 4750 & 265FT of torque from 3300-4000. Couldn't get her over 182 deg. until the belts came off. Also our rev. limiter came in at 5050 RPM, we bumped that up after the dyno pull, didn't really need to cause the power was dropping off anyway but small blocks don't mind to rev.
Unless something disastrous happens I'll se ya at the Point.

Oh holy cr4p, I wanna do this too!!
When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought you misspelled Le Mans... then I started reading the first post, checked out the link, and realized you really did mean LeMons, as in the sour yellow fruit and POS cars. I LOL'd hard! Looks like soooo much fun! I like the names of peoples cars, FailBird and IROC Maiden (my fiance loves that band).
Good luck in your race, your cars look rad. Go Thirdgens!! Rock on Lemons!

It's sooo fun.... Just got back and we finished both days. Day 1 was nasty rain all day long. Day two was great! We had a charging issue... Morsco main cut off switch took a dump... Very Lame! We only go two black flags... Typically they are for crappy driving. But in our case we broke the record for loudest car on a non cup weekend. LOL 104db. So basically the track Black Flagged us. Not Lemons. LOL If it's too loud! You're too old. LOL

No it's an 8 into 1 3" dia. One muffler. Dynomax 12" bullet. Going to add a sticker over the exhaust pipe. "If it's too loud you'er too old" And put a 24" bullet instead of the 12"
Hellz yeah.

at first i thought it was a misspelling also, looks like a fun race but something i didn't notice in the rules was cost on engine is that included in the rules for the $500 limit. Would be a nice rule that there is no limit on engine but can't have power adders. And I am green with envy over your house its like 4x the size of mine lol

As it is right now, there is no limit on safety related equipment. Brakes are very important, cage...etc. Yes, brakes are a performance feature, but they may be the thing you need to keep you from crashing into another car. Most of the cars in the $500 price range don't have brakes to handle a track day or even a 20 minute outing. Brake fade would be a massive issue otherwise.
A small, not dangerous example. In the Radio Control car world they have "Spec" classes to keep the prices down. One of the classes was started up as the Spec Inferno GT class. This class consisted of bone stock Kyosho Inferno GT On-road cars costing about $350. These cars were capable of doing 0-60mph in about 4 seconds with top speeds near the 70's. But one problem they came with was a single 1mm x 20m steel brake disc. This was not nearly enough to slow the cars down from high speeds. In the first races drivers were crashing and having car control issues. The cause was brake fade, drivers were trying to race hard and be competitive but the brakes just weren't good enough to haul the cars down from the speeds they were capable of reaching. The end result was drivers either going wide and bashing walls, or having to keep the cars slow and never using the engine's potential. It was pissing drivers off and driving them from the class. They later changed the rules to allow for any type of non-hydraulic braking system they wanted. Once the change was made the class exploded as the brake discs were only about $25 and take nearly 1-2yrs to wear them out.
Allowing engines would increase the cost of this racing. And while its cheap by comparison, it can still be expensive once you add in all the safety equipment and registration costs.

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
There is an unwritten rule in LeMONS. Do whatever it takes to keep the car running at the track. The engine was approved by LeMONs in Texas when we blew up. Also it's not like we put an LSX in there it's old school Gen1.

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
and no offense but it'd be a great engine to build for a drag car, but in an endurance sport dominated mostly by dohc v6s and 4 bangers it wouldn't be my first choice honestly

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons Build. 88 IROC
That completely defeats the purposes of keeping this a cheap racing option for people. If you allow the engine to be part of the no limit rules then some people are going to spend big bucks on an engine and its going to affect other teams that don't have that kind of money. And since the drive to be competitive is there it will raise the cost for EVERYONE.

i know i said no limit but i should of worded it better, no limit on parts to help it run but no power adders, i would still like to have a bit of breathing room with an engine, not to spend like $100,000 on it but a bit over $500 on parts to help it run reliably since buying a car for $500 of course the engine is gonna be a "lemon" lol and i guess that's the point of the race and the challenge to find a car and work on it for that little. Would like to get in on this racing but didnt buy any of my cars for $500 or less and the only ones i would be able to race in are in Oregon and north California and doing it in NC would be a stretch for me
