battery went dead today, upon opening the hood i saw a snapped alt belt and quickly thought to throw on the replacement one i have, problem was didn't have tools, after going home and getting my tools and then putting the new one on, the car squealed terrible after startup and then smoked like hell on the way home, i do not think the belts and accs are right on the car, i cannot find a belt diagram anywhere, if anyone has a pic of one, or just of there 305 H.O.'s v belt setup, it would be SSOOOOOOOO appreciated please reply now!!!!!!!!!!

 

just route it so that EVERYTHING turns/ and or search GOOGLE button.

 

did that and did that, found nothing and as far as i know everything is gonna turn, still not sure why a brand new belt would just snap though 0_o but hopefully it will al lbe good now

 

seized bearings on an accessory(alt, ac compressor?)

 

Before you put the belt on check and see if the alternator pully spins freely or the water pump if they stick or are quite hard to spin by hand then that's the problem!

 

I had the same problem where my alternator siezed up and killed the engine. Couldn't start with the belt on. I have a rebuilt alternator now...so I agree with above.
