87 Camaro lt.

Just picked up my first third gen! It's an 87 LT, all stock and unmolested. I bought it off some highschool kid who bought it off a mechanic who supposedly rebuilt the motor like 20k ago. Paid 1800
I have owned it for 2 weeks now and have since sanded/ primered the whole car, since the previous owner thought it was "tight" to tag on it. Painting the whole car blue when I can afford a new gun.

I'm only 20 and have owned 9 cars, and this is by far the slowest thing I have ever owned! It's discouraging, but I have high hopes and plans (bigger than my wallet lol).

Just thought I would share with you guys, since no one else in my family understands why there is a "pile of junk" in the driveway.

Well, now I am really confused. I think you guys are right. I popped the hood to take a pic and the sticker on the hood said its a 2.8 liter! It's for sure a v8 in there though. Hhow do I find out what motor I have?

So is this just a different steering wheel?

Re: 87 Camaro lt.

Looks to me like it probably was a factory 2.8 car since you have the gauges with no RPM on them and all the rest of them are very blunt. Might be an LT, just had the front bumper, skirts and such changed out to match the persons preferences. Could be a 305 or 350 in there, more than likely a 305 since it's carbed but some people that swap in 350's do go with carbs.

Re: 87 Camaro lt.

Whats up TGO. Thought i would update this, since its been over a year. My camaro has seen a little bit of love since this. Turns out, it was an LT but was once in a accident so the front bumper, hood, and fenders were from a RS. First thing I did to the car was add paint.

Now that It was looking good, I decided to work on the motor. That 305 got a few new parts. Weiand street warrior intake, New non cc Q-jet, air filter, MSD dizzy, 8mm msd wires, MSD coil, a long with replacing the whole cooling assembly thanks to my fan flying through my radiator.

I drove the car like this for almost a year all the way up till two months ago. I decided to pull the 305 to replace the all the gaskets and seals. Something inside me decided it wasnt meant to go back in. So I picked up a 350 for 200 bucks of craigslist with only 80k miles out of an 93 1500.

350

My old 305. This was also the first time I ever pulled a motor.

Re: 87 Camaro lt.

The 350 build so far
comp 270h cam
World product SR torquer heads
1.5 roller rockers
rpm air gap
high flow oil pump
double roller timing chain
summit racing harmonic balancer
Hooker headers with full 3" exhaust
MSD dizzy and coil.

heads out of the machine shop after a fresh rebuild.

I ended up breaking off the adapter piece from my harmonic balancer install tool because I thought my balaner needed to go on further but thats just the way the summit brand was designed. I had to hammer a socket on to it to remove it.

Re: 87 Camaro lt.

Now that there is no motor in my car, I took this time to clean up the engine bay. I deleted the ac and heater. Removed the computer, all smog stuff, cruise control, and anything else I thought was ugly. Then I painted the bay.

Re: 87 Camaro lt.

I just picked up this rear end off of craigslist for 300$ of a 2001 ws6 6sp with 56k miles on it! 3:42 gears and posi. iT will be a lot nicer than my old open diff, drum brake, 2:73 gears.

Lot of work; looking good so far. Keep in mind the late model rear end is wider than your stock unit. You may need to change wheels to avoid clearance issues.
