My 91 Z28 Builder

I have been on here for a little time now and seen some nice rides. I bought this 91 Z28 back in late August....paid $500 for it.
The Good:
NO RUST, working A/C, good running 305 (to Start), and cheap!!
The Bads: Dented everywhere, 700r4 trans needed rebuilt (was out of car when bought) interior was thrashed, wheels that were on the car were crap, stock exhaust, bad passenger window motor

Now for all has been done to date:
Rebuilt 700r4 trans to handle 600HP (not like I will ever get there)
New rims and rubber
put in mid size cam, lifters, push rods, larger injector, headers, removed smog pump, installed newer 95 Camaro axle for gear ratio and disc brakes), new performance exhaust header back (no cat),
Custom Leather interior

Need to install new black carpet, paint interior plastics, install Grant Steering wheel, and get it to body man this weekend for custom body and paint work. Going with pearl white and metallic anthracite grey (like the wheels) Going to two tone above top body line.

Hope to keep adding pics as I get it done.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

I really like the wheels. That style of "vintage" meets new wheel is what I have envisioned for the sport coupe I will someday build. What wheels are those?

I wish I was as excited about the interior... The door panels look like loose flanel cloth stretched over a warped or broken panel board. Probably need to see more pics to get a better feel for it.

Over all like where your going with it. Post more pics!

Looks like a nice project and seems like it was a good deal at $500.00. Can't wait to see it done.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

The wheels are American Racing Daytona 18's Anthracite Grey and machined lip. The doors are leather sewn three piece. Had the embossed bowtie put in just for kicks. What I like most so far about the doors the way I shaved the door handle down to just an arm rest.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

UPDATE:::
The door I had found got screwed up the day I went to pick it up....just my luck. However yesterday, I did acquire one just as nice and have started jamming out my car.
My new color will be a two tone with Tarnished Silver Metallic with the top line two tone color of Diamond Black Metallic. So far this appears to be one sweet combo. Will break the hard line up with a vibrant red pin stripe before clear coating it. One my new seat belts, weather stripping and all gets jammed out I will post a few pics to show progress.

Do those wheels require spacers? Also, how wide are they? They look great!

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

BullyDawg:
the Wheels are American Racing Daytona Ultralights 18x9 with a "0" offset. No spacers required. I have stock suspension with four wheel disk and a full posi 3.23 rear diff. the come ina few variations of colors and finishes. But I fell in love with the unique look it offered for my desired paint scheme.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

0 offset all around? The ones I am looking at on ebay are 0, +24mm... Could you have gotten the deep dish ones? Also, what size tires are you running?

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

No with the "o" Offset I keep this wheel right at the wheel well lip all the way around. Has a great stance, yet not looking like a drag car. I am probably going to drop it about an inch after body is done. I think this wheel is only offered in two offsets......"0" or "+24". Tried those but I dont like the extra wide drag look. I am more of a street, race, and handling guy.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

Well, finally got my furnace installed and running this morning in my garage. So here is what I have been up to today.
Removed beat-up drivers door
sanded prepped and painted all jams (doors, hatch, rear body panel behinds lights, t-tops lips, cowl, and core support.).....tedious but looks great
Installed new/used straight door

tomorrow.......sand and patch wing spoiler, tape off motor, sand and seal from the doors forward. and if I have any energy left....will put rest of interior back together.

I think it looks Badass in arctic white with those wheels, if anything I'd add black heritage stripes on it I didn't like the door panels with the chevy bowtie insertion but I liked the seats black & red, 3" Flowmaster 80's Series Catback, and a 350 upgrade to challenge that 600hp 700r4

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

the wheels will pop even better after I get the paint laid. I am goin a topline two tone. Tarnished Silver Metallic with Diamond Black Ice on top. I dont like the way stripes look on gen 3's. I will post more pics here in about a week when start paint. Already have a 355 sitting on the stand ready to get built for the car. No cat back (no cat...lol), running Headman Shorty headers, with custom made 3 inch y-pipe, 3 inch back to my Magnaflow and 3 inch tails.

Ok, so I'll be the dumb one. How do you plan to close the doors from the inside?

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

I'm not talking about the aftermarket big thick stripes they put on 3rd gens that extend all the way down the front nose, I'm talking about the heritage stripes that are thinner and end before the front of the hood, I personally am not a big fanatic of stripes on most cars but In this case I do find these acceptable and pretty nice.

They give it a meaner look. Especially with those wheels you got.
Sinister.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

I will get a post up as soon as I get the new grab handle mounted. I customized a set out of aluminum and had them powder coated. only 5 inches long and will bolt to the front of the armrest on same level. Try to get them finished tomorrow and take pics.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

I debated about the stripes you have until I saw a two tone look online. And with my color change it will look superior.

Re: My 91 Z28 Builder

Well finally at 5pm today I got the last coat of clear shot on it. Started painting at 8am this morning. Wow, glad it looks better than my back feels.....let her dry til 8pm then it was setup enough to install blisters, taillights, and spoiler....Starting to look like a car again.
Got the door grab handles installed for those wondering how to close door if windows were up.......however no pics until I get windows adjusted.

Cool color scheme but the chevy bowtie is backwards on the door panel. That would drive me nuts.
